POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I didn't set out to make last month a non-fiction-only reading month, but that's exactly how it turned out. I got a lot out of every single book. There are so many incredible people and stories in the world!

I don't know if I've ever felt as seen as a medical mama as I did while I was listening to Becoming Brave Together. Just thinking about it now, I want to go listen to it again. It was like going to group therapy. If you raise kids with special needs—and/or if you'd like to learn more about what life is like for those of us who do—GET THIS BOOK!!!

I already posted about The Only Plane in the Sky. Check out my glowing review in my previous post!

I enjoyed reading The Selected Journals of L.M. Montgomery: Volume 2. I found myself highlighting so many passages. Her life definitely wasn't easy, but I'm so grateful she persevered and captured so many amazing things on paper. LMM deserves ALL of the praise she's received since 1908 (when she first published Anne of Green Gables).

Four out of five of the PPPs (Pen to Paper Pals), my writing group, got together today. Usually we meet in Cache Valley, but today they drove down to my neck of the woods in Layton so we could enjoy some fish and chips and Sticky Toffee Pudding at Little Taste of Britain. As usual, we had the best time!

I am so grateful for these ladies. We hold each other accountable, read and critique each other's writing, cheer each other on, laugh and cry together, and so much more. We agreed that we need to take more field trips together in the future. 😊

On September 11th I started listening to the audiobook The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of 9/11. It was gripping from the first page, and I finished it within a couple of days. The author conducted over 500 interviews with people who lived through the attacks and compiled them into this outstanding piece of work. I honestly think everyone should read/listen to it. It was incredibly powerful, poignant, and sobering.

If you are old enough to remember that day, you know it's something that will always stay with you. I can't believe it's now been over 25 years. I've lived a lot of life since 2001, but I will never forget that fall day of my Sophomore year in high school.

I was supposed to take the first test for AP European History that day. My BFF and I were studying together as we rode the bus to school. We first heard about the attacks over the radio while we were still on the bus, but the details were jumbled as the announcers were still trying to figure out what was going on. By the time we got to Mrs. Morgan's classroom (because she was holding a study group there before school started), she had the news on the TV, and the test had been postponed.

Our teachers had been told to turn off the TVs when school started and to conduct class as usual. Yeah…not very likely. Some teachers (the rule followers, I suppose) heeded the administration's orders. However, our favorite teachers were the ones who listened to our questions, answered them as best as they could, and let us watch some news footage. I first heard the name Osama bin Laden that day as I sat in my choir teacher Mr. Baer's room. As the events of the day unfolded, we knew we were witnessing history unfolding before our eyes.

In this phenomenal book, the author talks about how crucial it is for us to share our stories of that day so we will #NeverForget . I remember how unfathomable it was to me the year I taught the first set of students who hadn't been born yet on 9/11/01. Were you alive on that fateful day? Do you remember where you were when you first heard about the attacks? Share your story below. We must always remember and honor those who lost their lives that day. by @bookingitwithbecca

@jingersoll01 and I have been on a puzzling kick ever since we got back from England. He likes 1k-piece puzzles. I think he's crazy and prefer 500-750 pieces, but he usually gets his way because he buys more of them. 😂

🎶 Every day we're puzzling! 🎶

Do you puzzle?
What # of puzzle pieces do you prefer?
Which of these puzzles is your favorite?!

FEBRUARY 23, 2027!!!

That's the day all (or at least a majority) of my bookish besties will be gleefully curled up with The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion Volume 9!

Tell me in the comments where you were when you heard/read the news that @bethbrower announced the release date!!!

Me? I was sitting on the couch with my son early this morning. I had allowed him to play a game on my phone. However, when my Pixel watch notified me of a new email from Beth Brower, I quickly stole my phone back. My son was (understandably) not too pleased with my decision. I literally hid in the bathroom so I could read the email because he didn't want to give it up. Don't worry; he calmed down after I'd excitedly read the email and given my phone back to him. 😂 All's well that ends well.

I can't wait to go back to St. Crispian's (as if I've ever left it in my head)!

Tea all around! 🫖🎉🫖

My hubby's work is having a little craft fair today, and I get to read during the slow moments. 📗 If you see anything you're interested in and you live in Northern Utah, DM me! Most of the stuff was made by my amazing mom, but I made the cards! 😊 by @bookingitwithbecca

I'm currently reading the second volume of The Selected Journals of L.M. Montgomery. Ever since reading the Emma M. Lion series, I've (re-)started highlighting my favorite passages in books. I used to do that all the time back when I was an English major and then an English teacher, but I'd gotten out of the habit. I laughed out loud when I read both of these! 😂

QOTD: What book(s) have made you laugh out loud?! Bonus points if you share a funny book quote. 😊 by @bookingitwithbecca

I was so busy traipsing across England for half of last month that I didn't get much reading in. Good thing I've already surpassed my annual reading goal! I set the goal to read 75 books this year, and I've already read 78—not counting my re-reads of Emma M. Lion!

In one of my last posts I detailed my reaction to Frederick Fife. I thought it was OK.

I really enjoyed Procrastination Proof! I listened to it on Libby, and I suspect I'll re-listen to it and/or buy a copy for myself. Jon Acuff offers a lot of helpful tips and advice in a simple, easy-to-implement way. As a lifelong recovering procrastinator, I can use all the help I can get on this front!

I LOVED The Trouble with Heroes. This touching middle grade book is filled with heart and lessons. It was so rewarding reading about how the main character evolves and grows as he works through his grief. I also appreciated it because there aren't a ton of other books yet (to my knowledge) that talk about Covid from an adolescent’s point of view. I might *have to* but a copy of this one, too. 😁 by @bookingitwithbecca

My hubby and I arrived in London (without incident) the week after the UK release of The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion (Volumes 1 & 2). Alas… If I had only known @bethbrower would physically be there for publication week, I would have planned our trip accordingly!

I did not know, however, so I was left to mourn not being there for her impromptu book signing like the rest of my fellow Americans. Instead I contented myself with going on a book hunt to see if I could snatch up signed copies she'd left at different bookstores. I tried four different shops, but no such luck. Woe is me.

At least the last location I tried had both of the first volumes. All of the other stores I tried had sold out of Volume 1. I bought two copies of each volume—one pair for me and one to give away in the future!

One of the last nights Josh and I were in England, we made our way to Primrose Hill. I simply had to see the neighborhood that had inspired St. Crispian’s! I was not disappointed. We found buildings with different colored doors, quaint shops, and a church that I could picture Young Hawkes preaching in. We trekked to the top of the hill (quite a climb, I tell you) to enjoy the sunset, and I took some pictures with my new, beloved books.

Do you plan on getting the UK version of the books?! Do you have them already? LMK below! by @bookingitwithbecca

Take me back to riding on a train in England!

My hubby and I were in England August 5th through the 15th. It was a dream come true! We went to London, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Bath.

I got a *little* reading done while there but not much. We were too busy sightseeing. I did, however, finish The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife shortly after we returned home.

Unpopular opinion: I enjoyed this book, but I thought it was just OK and had been overhyped. 😬

I'm sorry if you loved it! We're allowed to have different opinions. It was cute and heartwarming, but I thought it lacked depth. I also got quite annoyed with the sheer volume of potty humor, which I found juvenile in its excessiveness. I'm glad I read it, but I think I'll pass my copy on to someone else via a Little Free Library.

Have you read this book? What did you think about it if you have?! Comment below. 👇 by @bookingitwithbecca

July was a very busy month for our family, which meant less reading time for me. I read several books that I REALLY liked, though.

For example, Theo of Golden is now one of my favorite books. SOOOO GOOD!!! Believe the hype. The drawback was that Theo reminded me over and over again that I should be a better person. 😂

I also loved Dolly All the Time. It was another one I'd been super excited to read, and I've already recommended it to several friends (who also loved it). I'll definitely be re-reading it—perhaps every summer. I have a new favorite @annabelmonaghan book!

As I've mentioned repeatedly, I also continue to grow in my love of and admiration for L.M. Montgomery.

I technically listened to three more books last month, but I've decided to stop including my re-reads of Emma M. Lion in my monthly wrap-ups. There's a good chance I will ALWAYS be listening to at least one volume in any given month. Continuing to include them seems a bit like cheating on my total number of books read.
