My my my, another year come and gone. I struggle to come up with a single post that sums up this year, so you might see a couple before the year is up.

These are the stand outs that immediately come to mind. I’ve read quite a few books this year that have permanently altered my brain chemistry. Most of them had me immobile, staring at the wall, unable to move on for some time.

Next year I hope to find more books that make me feel that way. Books that leave me speechless and aching. Books that ignite something new in me. Books that validate some unnameable feeling I’ve been harboring in my gut.

Tysm for being here, tysm to everyone who has connected with me on books we love. I cherish you all ♥️ by @bookish.brooding

Hi, I’ve been on bookstagram for 1 year today, and let me tell ya I’ve been having a grand time.

Before creating this account, I always felt that I had to keep all of my excitement about my interests contained within my little bubble. Now that I have all you silly little freaks in my phone, my passions have flourished beyond recognition (almost to the point where it’s concerning like rn the vampire obsession is so all encompassing I’m starting to lose my ability to be a functioning member of society bc of it) ANYWAY... I’m grateful for all of the new friends I’ve made on here, and I’d love nothing more than to keep yapping about books and my other miscellaneous hobbies with all of you ♡ by @bookish.brooding

Reading & life update. April was a month of moving slowly and intentionally. Spending my free time doing things that bring joy and fulfillment, or spending it just simply existing

Spring is rejuvenating my desire to read, I feel. Pages read while basking in the sun. Stopping in a quiet place to read during a long drive to nowhere in particular. I’ve finished 2 books recently! A record for me this year tbh. Both were so so stunning and lovely. Immersions by Kyle McCarthy and Sweetbitter Song by Rosie Hewlett.

I’ve finally started sewing again! I’ve thrifted so many beautiful fabrics recently and I’m finding ways to put them to good use. So far I’ve made patchwork curtains for my kitchen window and a cute little oven curtain.

Hoping May brings more peaceful moments to read & gentle joy for all of us ♡ by @bookish.brooding

March, much like January and February, feels very liminal. The final slog through the trenches of melancholy before spring brings new life to my spirit. My moods waxed and waned drastically along with the weather, as did my reading habits.

Heap Earth Upon It started off slow for me (from reviews that seems to be the universal experience) but about halfway through it picks up and gets WEIRD. I couldn’t put it down after that. Sapphic obsession & ruminations on religion, two of my favorite topics. I connect with Anna so deeply, in all her limerent spiraling and poorly concealed self deprecation. Too sensitive & intense for this world.

I loved The Iron Garden Sutra way more than I anticipated. I knew I’d enjoy it (sci-fi, queer monk mc, sentient ai companion), but it was so much more than I expected it to be. Heart warming & heart breaking, tender and brutal. I will be daydreaming about the depressed monk and grumpy engineer duo until the sequel comes out.

I also started reading Dungeon Crawler Carl, and I’m having a lot of fun with it. I pretty much exclusively read it on the treadmill cuz it makes the agony and monotony of incline cardio fly by.

For April, I’m not setting any expectations for myself, reading-wise. Over the past 6 months my attention has shifted all over the place. I’m slowly getting into a new routine that makes life feel bearable. Now, reading mostly comes at times when my mind feels quiet. Otherwise I’m working on puzzles, legos, misc crafts, or video games (I got a new gaming laptop so drop your game recs below).

I hope you all are feeling good as spring approaches. I’m going to make it a priority to be more active on here even when I’m not posting cuz I miss y’all dearly. by @bookish.brooding

Time doesn’t move linearly in January, I feel. It ticks forward, pauses, skips back a beat, on and on. The cold feels suffocating this year. Each attempt at a cleansing breath inhibited by frosty air, frozen in time.

My reading started off slow this year, but the snowstorm found me curled up with my books. I read Emily Austin’s new book. Not my favorite of hers, but I enjoyed it. I finished book 2 of the Sister Holiday series, and my library hold for the newly released 3rd book is already available, thank god (pun intended). I read Exiles in one day, spending my snow day in isolation, half at home, half on Mars.

The topic of grief is following me through every single book I pick up, whether I’m searching for it or not. A relentless bell tolling, a reminder to let myself sit with my feelings lest they morph into something unrecognizable while I’m forcing myself to look the other way.

I feel like a broken record, but once again I haven’t spent as much time on here as I’d like. Hopeful February will leave room for inspiration to strike. by @bookish.brooding

Reading update ♡

I haven’t done one of these in a while. I’m starting off the year strong with a re-read of my favorite sci-fi series The Devoured Worlds! I’m about 100 pages into The Blighted Stars and I’m loving it just as much (maybe more) than the first time.

I finally finished The Summer Hikaru Died, and I’ll be watching the show ASAP!!!

As far as 2025 goes, I’m not going to do a wrap up. That cursed year has no business being on my page any longer. I will hold tightly to the few beautiful moments that year provided & the rest I’m throwing to the wind, never to be seen again. by @bookish.brooding

It’s only fitting that my last post of the year is dedicated to the series I spent all year reading. These characters have put me through hell and back time and time again and I’ve cherished every single moment.

The focus on grief in this last series was such a sounding bell for my own struggles, and it’s so synchronistic that I found my way to the final series at this time in my life. I’ve spent hours crying with Fitz & Bee.

I honestly can’t even put into words my feelings for Fitz & Beloved. The memory of them will haunt me forevermore.

When I started this series I never could have imagined the magnitude of the story that was about to unfold. Everytime I thought things might be getting better for Fitz, he was hit with another wave of unimaginable suffering. That should have lent him some grace in my eyes but I spent 90% of the series screaming vitriol at him in my mind.

& Beloved…oh my sad, tortured, misunderstood court jester. You just wanted to be loved the way you love so freely, to make up for the love you never received as a child (& save the world but whatever blah blah blah).

The ending was so incredibly bittersweet, but I’d expect nothing less from The Realm of Pain and Suffering. by @bookish.brooding

November was another slow reading month for me. I only managed to get through 2 books, but they were both 5 stars ⭐️

I still think about The Everlasting daily. I don’t think I’ll ever get over it. I ugly cried over the latter half of Fool’s Quest. I’m not ready to leave rote behind, but I want to finish it up this year so I will be reading the final book this month.

I’m still aching over Frankenstein. I just started reading it last night. I plan on staying creature-pilled through the entirety of winter.

Also I got 2 new tattoos in November after a couple years of not getting any new work done!

December will be busy, so I’m not sure how much time I’ll have for reading, but I think I might be coming out of my slump…we shall see. by @bookish.brooding

It’s hard to explain how special this book is to me. I spent many hours crying over these pages. Sitting and commiserating with Fitz & Bee in their grief. It feels like fate that this was the next book in the series for me after I lost my father & my grandma.

Though the plot is not as adventurous as we’re used to from Hobb, this book gives such a heartbreakingly beautiful new depth to Fitz.

Meeting Bee was such a joy. The burly depressed ex assassin and tiny freak sprite daughter duo is truly unmatched.

As I’m writing this I’ve already finished Fool’s Quest as well. One more book to go until I’m FINISHED with rote wtf????? by @bookish.brooding

Winter hopefuls ♡

I am notoriously bad at following through with any tbr list I set for myself. I’m giving myself a whole season this time in hopes that I’ll at least follow through with some of them.

Very excited about all of these. A few classics that I shamefully haven’t read yet. A few dark ones to fit the season. Gideon bc I’ve been meaning to read that series forever, and I’d love to get into it once I finish rote.

& ofc we have to take a moment for these beautiful covers ♡

What are you excited to read this fall/winter?? by @bookish.brooding
