• January Book Review •

I gave out three 5 - star reviews? Weird.

• Demon Copperhead is so incredible and I’m really wondering if it will be my top book of 2025.

• I saw Under Your Scars on a facebook group and I didn’t love. May make me a snob, but whatever lol. Everyone has their own preferences and that’s ok! Whatever gets people to read :)

• I finally finished the Ravenhood series and I loved it! I did give the whole series 3 stars, though. Only as an average between the 3!

• The Perfect Marriage was such a page turner and kept me LOCKED in. I read it in a day when I was sick! Great for a reading slump.

• I LOVED THE SONG OF ACHILLES!!!! I was hesitant because I didn’t love Circe, but this quickly became a 5 star read.

• Funny Story was so cute. I really like Emily Henry and her writing style. Sometimes you just need something to give you that warm and fuzzy feeling hehe

• Finally, Pretty Girls. Holy guacamole. Dark, but I absolutely loved it! I have since added several of her novels to my TBR.

January made 7/50 books for the year! So excited to keep working through my TBR, and any recs people may have :)

read number 2 of 2025 and I rated two stars. I finished it because I hate giving up on books, but this was not my jam. It’s labeled as a “dark romance” but I would have to disagree. I really despise toxic relationships being glorified, and this book absolutely does that. Several trigger warnings, so please be cautious if you choose to read.

this follows the story of Elena, a young woman who has finished law school trying to pass the bar exam while pursuing a career at Reeves Enterprises. There’s an active serial killer in Meridian City, known as The Silencer, that Elena just so happens to meet. He becomes a presence in her life, as does the CEO of her company, Christian Reeves. I don’t want to spoil anything, but if you use your brain, the storyline is very predictable. The smut is decent if you’re in to that, but it all feels super unrealistic to me. Curious to know everyone’s thoughts!

first finished read of 2025 & rating it 5 stars. also I’m a kindle girlie now (obsessed). Demon Copperhead is a modern day retelling of David Copperfield set in Appalachia. This novel really did a number on my heart strings. If you’re from Appalachia, I think you’ll really appreciate this story. I found myself relating to Demon and his experiences. The descriptions of the towns, houses, and people give me the cozy feeling of being home. A major theme in this book is the opioid epidemic, which leads to the downfall of many in Demon’s world. I have to thank @sapphiclibrary_ for the recommendation 💓

HEY SO I FINALLY FINISHED THE SERIES and I cannot get over A Court of Silver Flames. I went in to this truthfully despising Nesta. The more we get to see of her and explore her emotions, the more I grew to love her. This is a beautiful story about reconciling with the really tough parts of yourself, believing you can do hard things, friendship, and sisterhood. This quote gave me *goosebumps* and left me feeling seen. Maybe seen isn’t the right word, but it felt like a relatable moment when we make an internal shift. I LOVED THIS BOOK and am so sad that it’s over.

I didn’t start getting in to audiobooks until recently. I’ve had such a difficult time picking up books recently & audiobooks make it easy! I’ve been binging Frieda McFadden lately. I’m HOOKED. GAGGED. What app do you recommend for audiobooks? I use Spotify, but it has the cute cap on hours. I also have Libby! Just looking for recs!

remember when I said I wanted to be more consistent posting here? yeah, me either. I have been in such a reading slump for MONTHS. Life gets busy and weird. Anyway, finally cracked open this bb and I CANNOT STOP READING IT. I was so unsure about it because until this book, I was not a Nesta girlie. Since it centers around her, it deff deterred me. I’m not super far in to it, but I can already tell I am going to be obsessed.

I absolutely do not want to start the next book so I’m avoiding as long as possible 🙃 I just don’t want to be done with the series, yet!! A 500 year old faerie having me in a chokehold… be so for real. No really, be real 😂 I love love love this series and don’t even know where I will begin with giving it a review!!

hey hi what’s up!! first post of 2024 - no time like 6 weeks later, right? one of my 2024 intentions is to be more active on here, being purposeful about posts and content, and reading more. I didn’t meet my goal last year (sad), but I’m already ahead of schedule for this year & feel really good about it. since I’ve been off insta, though, I have read a few great books. hello yes hi I have been MIA… seems to be a theme with me, who knows. BUT I am working to get some content ideas, while also trying to find a good life balance for me and focus on overall well being. such a slay moment. anywho, for the most recent read.

I’m going to rate this as a 3.8 - 4.0. Will get to me being picky in a moment.

This is my first Lucy Score book, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Naomi Witt is in a new town at the request of her twin sister, Tina, who ✨sucks✨ by the way. She meets a grumpy, handsome, tattooed man, sexual tension builds, we all know what happens from there. maybe it’s just the cynic in me, but sometimes I wanted to gag at the cheesy love lines. my favorite character is probably Naomi’s niece, Walay. Who, by the way, was abandoned (!!!) by her mother, terrible Tina. There’s some elements of mystery, crime, love - you know, all the fun stuff.

Honestly, I did enjoy the book! I always find myself turning to this genre when I’m in a reading slump. I did want to DNF within the first 50 pages though - only because I could not deal with the Naomi coffee obsession. it felt like a very “pick me” moment. again, maybe just the cynic in me! or am I being too picky?

Y’all when I say this book is dark… it is DARK. This novel is so timely and heartbreaking, gut wrenching - all of the descriptions. Vanessa’s story is told throughout two timelines: one as her as a 15 year old at boarding school, the other in 2017. 15 year old Vanessa is lonely, no longer having a best friend. She is searching for that sense of being needed - which is unfortunately found in her 40-something year old teacher. From a reader’s perspective, we notice her being groomed and preyed upon. Vanessa struggles to view it that way. Which leads us to 2017 - this teacher is being accused of assault by MULTIPLE students and Vanessa is approached to tell her story. She is working out her thoughts and feelings in therapy… and there’s plenty of complicated feelings. This book has ALL of the trigger warnings, so be aware. But wow… this book is an incredible work and it has catapulted to my top 5.

YALL I hate to be this person… but I was ✨ underwhelmed ✨ by Circe. And I think it’s totally on me. I think I went in expecting something else maybe? I don’t know. I’m also not a huge Greek mythology girlie so don’t take my word for it. Anywho I wanted to provide an update because I’ve been trying to finish this for quite literally 1.5 months and I refused to DNF.
