WELL HELLO THERE!!! Yes, I know!! It’s been so long since I’ve posted. But I’ve been doing my best to be out and about in this hell hole of a country and let me tell you, it’s been GLORIOUS. This Summer has been one of the best I’ve had in a LONG time. And i’ve also read some incredible books, including Kin by Tayari Jones and ARCs of The Disappearers by Marlon James and Eclipse & The Wolf by Akwaeke Emezi. Even though I’m constantly ranting on Threads, reading has kept me somewhat sane. New reviews will be uploaded to the site this week!

One thing I will do is follow the lead of @blackgirlthatreads and tell you all to PLEASE check your voter registration so you can vote in the midterms. And if you aren’t registered, do it TODAY if the deadline hasn’t passed. Get to know your reps in not just the Senate and House, but also your local boards. Too many of them are not listening to their constituents and need to be ousted. PLEASE VOTE!!! by @bookmindedmag

As I’ve been doing since it started, I went to the Aesop Queer Library, this time at the Nolita location. I chose Sister Outsider by Audre Lorde, an author I am ashamed to say I haven’t read yet (I know I know). if you’re in New York, stop by but remember, you can read books by queer authors all year round. #aesopqueerlibrary #audrelorde #bookmindedmag by @bookmindedmag

After having one of the worst weeks in a long time, my friend @audreywangnyc invited me to a screening and talk for The Vampire Lestat. We got to breathe the same air as Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson. Both were so lovely to the fans and yes, they look that good in person. Week made. That first episode is incredible so prepare yourselves!! #thevampirelestat by @bookmindedmag

This is the little punk who called ICE on employees at Allston Car Wash. If this info is correct, HE IS AN IMMIGRANT. Racism is CRAZY. The gall of this a-hole. by @bookmindedmag

My October reading was SLOW. Only finished three books because I was too tapped into what’s happening in the world. I’m still tapped in but nowhere near as much. Staying off of social media (especially Threads) has already done wonders for my reading.

Books I read in October:

107 Days - Kamala Harris (audiobook)
The Macabre - Kosoko Jackson
Cry, Voidbringer - Elaine Ho by @bookmindedmag

Picked up this book the last time I was at the library and I chose well. It’s a book containing 50 short essays from tree collectors and enthusiasts. I’ve read five of them so far and each one is lovely. The author created illustrations of each tree collector, which brings the essays to life. They’re colorful, rich and vibrant. If you love trees as much as I do, you should definitely read this book.

I’ve been reading the Best American Essays since the early 2000s when I was at NYU. But this year I am geeking out more than usual because @jiatortellini is the guest editor for 2025. Jia’s essays are always top tier (if you haven’t read Trick Mirror wtf are you waiting for?) so I’m excited to see which ones she and Kim Dana Kupperman chose for this year’s collection.
