Tomorrow the Girly Pops are discussing American Fantasy by @emmastraub ! 🚢🎤 Huge thanks to @booksthatmakeyoublush and @bookshopetc for this gifted copy! 💝 This book was definitely unlike any other I have read. As a girl who had a strong One Direction phase and is now down bad for k-pop, the fandom moments in this made me laugh out loud. The book follows a recently divorced middle aged woman who finds herself on a cruise ship centered around the boy band “Boy Talk”. When she gets entertwined with fans and the band members themselves… things get interesting! 😂 Overall, a light-hearted read. Not my favorite, but definitely see the pull and intrigue. I just wanted more romance!! There was a lot of build up and emotions for not much to come out of it. American Fantasy doesn’t take itself too seriously and I would recommend it as a light and funny vacation read - especially for any girl who has had a boy band crush! #bookreview #contemporaryromance #summerreads #bookclub #booki taken in book/shop, etc. by @bookshopetc

Greetings from Sweetwater Peak 🏔️ Happy release day to one of my faves @authorlylasage ! Free Falling is one of my most anticipated reads of the year, partly because of how much I personally relate to both Clarke and Leith. My background also includes a family owned vintage/antique store that I ran, a family farm, tight-knit sibling relationships, and a deep love for my small hometown with its quirky characters and “some things never change” charm. Collins and Brady welcomed us to Sweetwater Peak, and I have had my ticket booked to go back since I finished Soul Searching, so I am particularly thrilled for release day!!

One of my claims to fame is that I read Done & Dusted by Lyla when it was indie released on KU, so I take particular joy in getting to support authors I’ve been with since indie get their trad releases! And of course, as per usual, my besties at @bookshopetc and @booksthatmakeyoublush had me ready to go for release day with the most adorable bookmark from @meaggiemoos 📖❤️ My trips to BTMYB for favorite authors on release day with a matching bookmark has become one of my favorite hobbies, and I can’t wait to continue! The secret is officially out.

ELLEN HOPKINS IS COMING TO BOOK/SHOP, ETC.

Behind every challenged book is more than a title on a list. There’s an author who wrote it, a librarian navigating what happens next, a community whose stories may be at the center of it, and a reader whose access hangs in the balance.

On October 8, we’re bringing those perspectives together in one room, right here in Missouri’s capital, where many of the decisions shaping what happens on our shelves are being made.

Ellen will be joined by Missouri State Representative + former librarian Wick Thomas, Abigail Nahlik, Courtney Waters + Heather S. Fleming, with Samuel Cohen, author of Banning Books in America: Not a How-to, moderating the conversation.
