It’s mental health awareness month. If you know me or have followed me for a while, you know I share tons about mental health. I studied psychology, have published research in psychology, and have navigated my own journey with mental illness. I really appreciate the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience whenever I can. Mental health is health. It’s CRUCIAL.

I’ve lived through panic disorder, depression, and OCD. I’ve had a mental health crisis where I couldn’t eat for 3 months (caused a LOT of physical issues), had to move home, had to see handfuls of doctors regularly, really struggled through each day and honestly couldn’t see things improving. My biggest regret is not going to an inpatient program during this time. There is absolutely no shame in that.

Medication saved my life. Support from my therapist, family and some best friends saved my life (seriously, I mean calling one particular friend at least once an hour because the thought loop would never stop). People sharing their experiences with me saved my life. I will always recover loudly so no one has to suffer in silence or alone. I will always tell someone to see a therapist or psychiatrist, and I will NEVER say that with anything but love.

I just need to reiterate that medication saved me. I feel more myself medicated than I did for YEARS being undiagnosed and untreated. It’s normal to take medication when you have an illness.

Whatever you are dealing with, you are not alone, you can handle this, and things will get better. I’m sharing some of my favorite posts from other accounts about mental health here 🤍

We have one precious life and I truly believe we should do whatever it takes to make sure we can live it happily and not in suffering and pain. We owe it to ourselves to show up, make the best choices even if they’re hard, and utilize resources regardless of the stigma. taken in New Mexico by @booksinthewest

My birthday is Monday and my partner took me to @bnsantafenm to celebrate a little early 🥰 it was also a perfect distraction because my soul doggy Lisl died three years ago today. It’s always a bit hard and nice to do something fun to celebrate her life, too.

I feel so lucky to have this kind of love in my life. I’m surrounded by the absolute best people and that’s what I appreciate most going into 32! taken in Barnes & Noble Booksellers by @booksinthewest
