Sadly our beautiful trumpet vine that is over 50 years old is losing its beautiful “trumpets” today.
On this windy, hot day I’m reading this atmospheric, tense mystery. This will be kind of like staying in to read during a blizzard, but during a heat wave in the summer. Any excuse to read😉 by @bookwalk1

Peek-a-boo!

I love to visit independent bookstores when I travel so I visited Sandmeyer’s Bookstore in Chicago recently and picked up these gems!
Sunshine is a gem I already have!

REVIEW: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
When reading dual timeline books, I sometimes enjoy one timeline more than another. In this book, the early timeline was fascinating to me showing the development of early women pilots and the role they played in war. The characters in this timeline were more interesting to me than the present day time line.
The plot in this book is very detailed which I felt sometimes bogged down the action.
The ending to this book was surprising and satisfying.
This was my second Big Book Summer Challenge completion.

REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you like politics, history and spies in your thrillers, Steve Berry is an author for you! In this alternate history novel set in Sweden, you will learn about many political and historical references to Sweden and other countries of Europe all wrapped up in a fantastic spy thriller! Read this novel to find out how a ship provides a backdrop for a spectacular chase scene! Not to be missed!

Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Life: a Love Story is a comfort read you might be ready for; especially if you have been reading serious, intense, or long books.
Flo is nearing the end of her life. She begins writing a letter to a woman who as a young girl, Ruthie, grew up living across the street from Flo. Flo decides to deed Ruthie her house and in her letter explains some of the things in her house and their importance. This is a comfort read in the vein of The Correspondent and Theo of Golden but, in my mind, somewhat less of an emotional impact. It does contain nuggets of truth about life and tells of the enduring love between Flo and her husband, Terrence.

I now have flowering plants starting to bloom. What’s better than reading a book with a beautiful spring flower cover!?
Have any of you read Elizabeth Berg or this book? I have several of hers marked to read, but this will be my first. This book follows the recent trend in novels of elderly MC reviewing their life and finding new meanings for living. I hope it is as enjoyable as other reads like this.

Spring is just starting to make an appearance with green grass and budding shrubs and bushes in our state so I thought I would add this spring-inspired photo.
REVIEW:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ More Than Enough by Anna Quindlen is a heart-rending relationship book. It is full of serious subjects that many people grapple with. I found so many ways to connect to this book and the writing is so wonderful. I read this from the library and plan to buy a personal copy to enjoy.

Polly is the MC who has a deep connection with her friends and a fulfilling career as a high school English teacher in a private school. She longs to become a mother but she and her husband have about exhausted their options for getting pregnant. She is given a DNA kit by her book club friends that gives her a mysterious outcome. This book is about deep personal relationships with both sadness and triumph. You will both cheer and cry along with these unforgettable characters. The writing is poignant and you will be wanting to save many of the quotes from this book. I expect this book will be one of my top ones of the year.
If you’ve read this book, please let me know your thoughts.

REVIEW⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This thriller is not one I’ve seen talked about on Bookstagram so I thought I would give my thoughts. Two warnings for this book. First, there is a trigger warning for violence in this book and second, if you decide to read it, set aside time as it will grab your attention and not let go.
This book goes back and forth between time periods and action. This makes the plot move swiftly but also tends to make it somewhat choppy as the chapters alternate and are very short, sometimes being only a page long. I did figure out some of what was going on before the main characters did, but that didn’t lessen my interest.
This author has a backlist which I plan to explore. So I would say this was an entertaining read well worth your time as long as you are not bothered by the violence. by @bookwalk1
