Allow me to re-introduce myself.

I’m Val, co-founder of Boom Essentials.

But before that, I’m a doctor.

A mom of three (Kira, Jamie, and Clay).

A wife to my chronically happy husband, David.

And I became a professional bodybuilder at 54 (yes, really).

I’ve spent my career in preventive medicine and public health, advocating for people to get the quality care they deserve.

I co-founded Clear Health Advisors to help people navigate serious diagnoses.

I wrote a monthly health column for the LA Times for over a decade.

And somewhere along the way, I realized the products we rely on to help us move through life with ease, hadn’t been reimagined in generations.

So Byrdie and I started building Boom.

Because caring for yourself shouldn’t come with shame.

It should come with beauty, ease, and a little bit of joy.

Glad you’re here.

Let me reintroduce myself.

I’m Byrdie, co-founder and CEO of Boom Essentials.

Getting here was not a straight line.

For close to twenty years, I was a partner and agent at CAA, representing A-list writers and directors and closing big deals. One of the few women to ever make partner there.

I loved that job. And I was really good at it.

Then in 2012, I got misdiagnosed. Not once, but twice.

That experience changed everything. Suddenly I was on the other side of the system, not advocating for talent, but a patient trying to figure out a complicated maze.

So I called my dear friend, Dr. Val Ulene.

Together, we launched Clear Health Advisors, a firm built around helping people find the right specialists and the right care at the right moment.

Along the way, we noticed something nobody was talking about.

The products people relied on to live fully, after surgery, on the road, on the trail, were ugly, clinical, and chipping away at their dignity. Nobody was making modern day essentials rooted in human centered design.

So we built Boom.

And we’re just getting started.
