Canada Lynx
I followed this cat down the road and saw it duck into the bush at the side. I stopped at the spot where I thought it had gone into but only saw a tangled mess of trees. I then walked closer to the bush line and looked closer into the trees and followed a short path to the river. Seeing nothing I walked back along the tree line and happened to see this “gray ghost” sitting about 3 feet away watching me through the trees. I wanted to stop and stare but walked nonchalantly past and back up to the roadside. I struggled to see it through the tangled mess. I had to lay on my back on a grassy slope to get low enough to see it through the branches. I was almost too close to use my telephoto. Had to push my ISO way up and manually focus through the branches.
What a beautiful encounter.

This majestic Crested Caracara has been hanging out in farm fields for the past 3 weeks in Northwestern Ontario. It is way out of its range, as is a native of Mexico, Central America and South America. It is a large bird of prey that hunts on the ground chasing mice, and other small prey. They will also eat carrion.
