Recently I was looking over @dana.guest (who is also a wheelie) shoulder at a video of her at the Kia center in the accessible seats. I thought “hmmmm. Ya know what? I could manage that with the right people helping. If a good show comes through I’d like to go.”

I haven’t been to a concert since I got injured and everyone who knows me knows I survive mostly on music.

Apparently through the ethers my call was heard. Only A WEEK later my dear friend @mysticals texted saying Weezer and the Shins were going to be in Orlando at the Kia center and would I like to go??

HELL. YES. 😍

I saw Weezer years ago and tbh it wasn’t really the best show … but I thought I’d love to see the Shins and Misty.

Misty and her friend Michael checked out the accessibility routes prior and took care of all the mental (and physical) gymnastics. This is so appreciated and so rare 😩🙏 . Most people treat me like an alien (which … ok … fair), objectifying me and honestly just being super awkward about the disability. When someone just treats me like a human and is willing to help without making it weird it’s so healing.

I wasn’t expecting the show we got but Weezer actually KILLED IT. It was probably the best concert I’ve ever been to. I had forgotten how deep Weezer lives in my bones. Songs that are meant to be sung loudly and with your outcast friends. They put on a show that dredged up all those wonderful memories. (Hi @napolesamy and @peteynap21 )

They created a very immersive narrative where the crowd was at backyard house party and it was PERFECT to let go and sing along with all the other introverted converse wearing aliens and nerds.

SUCH. A great night. Perfect vibes. I had THE MOST fun. Thank you so much Misty and Michael and Weezer and all my fellow weirdos. 👽🤘🤘

This morning while I was getting my coffee I saw this little hummer. I never would have caught it if not for the way its wings shone translucently in the sunlight at that moment. It stayed around for two hours.

This poem is the last thing I had saved on my phone before my accident.

Most of the time, below my injury, it’s just white noise with a side of nerve pain and electrical jolts (yes I can also feel blood flow, pressure, cold). If I really focus on trying to feel something I can experience a rush of electricity to the area but my brain still interprets it as white noise. It knows *something* is happening but it doesn’t have enough information to create a full representation of the stimuli.

But recently I’ve noticed sometimes I can pair a memory to an action (if I have enough creative help) and, as far as I’m experiencing, it’s almost real. Self induced virtual reality. by @born_amber

“DON’T PANIC” I had to make a disclaimer. I only posted the original reel for education. It’s Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month 💥🩻 (yay!) and this is not that unusual of a day in the life video for those with SCI. While a frustrating day for some people might look like a hangover and the Starbucks line is backed up. A frustrating day for others might be having to put aside the fact that you probably have a UTI (so you’re constantly peeing yourself), to deal with a wound that may (💁‍♀️) or may not (🤷‍♀️) be trying to kill you ☠️. This is, my loves, a disability. I have a disability. *This* is why more education is needed. *This* is my reality. The medical system has learned how to keep us alive after injury and that’s it.

You’re kept alive just to face a constant struggle of a world without universal design and a medical system that doesn’t know how to support your needs, in a very confused and fragile body. God speed friends, “We apologize for the inconvenience”.

And here we are. This doesn’t need extra emotionality (in fact that usually is more for *you* than the person on the receiving end 😬) It doesn’t need pity (ew). I don’t need medical advice (unless you’re Dr. Higdon or @dana.guest 😝). There’s no need to problem solve (the trouble has been shot 👌, we good). I love all your big hearts tho, it’s what makes my world keep spinning and what I DO frequently need is helping hands (but like … just be cool ok?) … and it’d be nice if more people cared about universal design and funding research for a (gasp) CURE to paralysis.

I hate to break it to you but you probably aren’t going to make it to the finish line in a perfectly able body - something to think about. Oh yea! And Thanks for all the fish! 🐬 by @born_amber

I was scrolling through old videos one day looking for something and this video stopped me. I used to start my days blaring music and dancing around like a dork. I loved it. In fact … I’d pretty much do this all day no matter where I was.

I loved this little apartment and this time of my life so much (hi @sun_hands_ and @nikkisabol !)
