Today, hundreds of Indigenous people are marching through Miri, Sarawak — from the heart of their communities to the Miri High court.

The Perarakan Solidariti Orang Asal Sarawak (Sarawak Indigenous Solidarity March) is a powerful reminder that the fight for Ancestral Domain and Indigenous rights is not a local story. It’s a national and global one.

Organised by a coalition of 15 civil society organisations, today’s march will deliver a landmark Sarawak Native Rights memorandum to the State and Federal Government, calling for formal legal recognition of Orang Asal rights.

We stand in solidarity with every person who walked today. 🌿✊

Saving the forests of Upper Baram should be such a no brainer. A little heart and a little courage and the Sarawak government could have got it done. Instead, they opened up the Baram Peace Park’s core primary forest zone for logging once again. For shame. taken in Sarawak, Malaysia by @borneoproject

“When people ask us, what does this land mean to you?

The only answer we can give, is that it means everything.”

Communities in the Upper Baram region of Sarawak are working together to protect their forests.

Our midyear appeal will fund forest protection teams who are ready to go right now.

Thanks to our incredible community, we’re already halfway to our fundraising goal of $80,000. With a matching grant in place, all donations between now and the end of the month are doubled.

Anything you can give moves this vital work forward. Head to borneoproject.org and click the donate button to find all the ways to give. 🙏

Forest protection teams in Upper Baram know exactly what is needed to protect their land. They’ve kicked the loggers out before and now they’re bracing for a new threat.

We are urgently fundraising to support rapid response teams. Right now, every gift is doubled by a matching grant, up to $40,000. Please give today to help this last line of defense against forest destruction.
