Some insight on how colored tubing is made:

✨There’s store bought tubing (which is great) or custom hand made tubing by each glass artist.
✨I’d say 90-95% of all my colored tubing is hand made by me.
✨Pros and cons to both, but mainly time consumption. Store bought tubing is great because half the work is done for you, but you still may need to do some things to make it “workable”. One example is sleeving or striping clear glass over the color to give it a protective layer from the flame chemistry of the torch. Certain colors are prone to boiling out or devitrification (scuz) due to contact of the flame. The clear layer allows protection from the flame enabling you to work freely with the color knowing those problems won’t occur.
✨ When making your own custom colored tubing not only do you have to make colored tube from scratch you still then need to sometimes add that protective layer of clear over said color which adds more time to the process. This is all before you even make whatever items you intend on creating.
✨In this quick video this is one example of how to make colored tubing. I take a solid rod of color and pull it down into what we call stringers (thinner rods of glass) and stripe it onto clear tubing until the color is fully wrapped around the clear tube. Then I stripe clear glass over it to get it that protective layer from the flame.

Deze handgemaakte glazen dreadlockkralen van @borobeads33 zijn met de hand vervaardigd door de ontzettend talentvolle Adam. Voordat ze een plekje in de dreadlock collectie kregen, maakten ze al een indrukwekkende reis: vanuit de Verenigde Staten reisden ze eerst naar Jamaica en vervolgens naar Nederland! 🌍

Elke kraal is uniek en met veel vakmanschap gemaakt. Juist dat maakt ze zoveel meer dan een accessoire het is een heus kunstwerk! ❤️
De kralen dragen een stukje van de reis, het ambacht en het verhaal van de maker met zich mee. 🌍💛
