POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Human beings are like water and we are in a state of constant motion, flowing into new spaces, intersecting with the lives of strangers, taking the shape of our surroundings, and eventually moving onward. Yet, water always leaves a permanent trace on the surface it passes over.
We spend our lives navigating these intersections. While some people enter our lives for a fleeting moment, others stay long enough to become part of who we are. But we rarely stop to ask ourselves, what happens to us after we meet? What residue do these encounters leave behind?

I invite you to MEETING POINT. Come experience the constant human transit , how strangers cross paths and how relationships form and what remains long after a room clears .

What really happens before an artwork reaches the gallery?

That question continues to lead me into the studios of remarkable artists, spaces where ideas are questioned, materials are explored, and creativity is shaped through discipline, curiosity, and years of practice.

This time, we step inside the studio of @bakare_sideeq Babatunde Bakare. Beyond the finished works, we explored the stories behind the practice, and the experiences that continue to inform his creative journey. Every studio has its own rhythm, and every visit offers a deeper appreciation for the dedication that transforms an idea into a work of art.

Together with @emmyegwemi we had insightful conversations about artistic practice, process, and the importance of understanding the work beyond its surface.

These studio visits are becoming more than documentation , they are opportunities to preserve the stories, philosophies, and creative environments that shape contemporary African artists. I hope this series encourages us all to look beyond the finished artwork and appreciate the journey behind it.

Welcome to the studio of Babatunde Bakare.

Share your thoughts in the comments, and let me know which artist’s studio we should explore next.

There is something profoundly different about encountering an artwork in the artist’s studio before it ever reaches the white walls of a gallery.

A studio strips away the polish of exhibition-making and reveals what audiences rarely get to see the process, the discipline, the failures, the revisions, and the countless decisions that shape every finished work.

Recently, I had the privilege of visiting the studio of @ife_kalejaiye alongside @emmyegwemi , and what stood out wasn’t just the remarkable body of work before us, it was the environment that nurtures it

Ife’s studio is one of the most thoughtfully organized creative spaces I’ve encountered. Every tool, every material, and every corner reflects intentionality. It became immediately clear that the order within the studio mirrors the discipline behind his practice.

As curators, collectors, and audiences, we often meet the artwork at the end of its journey. But stepping into the studio allows us to witness the beginning, to understand the ecosystem from which creativity emerges.

This documentary is an invitation into that world.

Welcome to the studio of Ife Kalejaiye.

Spent the day immersed in Reclaimed Beauty, the latest exhibition by @dotundavid_popoola and curated by @bayoomoboriowo in the company of @emmyegwemi and @becoming_alfaruk

Beyond the remarkable sculptures and creative ingenuity on display, what stayed with me most were the conversations. I had the opportunity to attend with friends and speak with fellow artists about their thoughts on the exhibition, its themes, and the power of transforming discarded materials into objects of meaning and beauty.

What emerged was a shared appreciation for art’s ability to challenge how we see value, not just in materials, but in ideas, communities, and ourselves.

Art does not merely reclaim objects, it reclaims perspectives.

Is a sketch an artistic diagram or a functional diagram?

During our roundtable discussion, a thought provoking question was raised to the art group by @jamil_isim “Is a sketch an artistic diagram or a functional diagram?”

What seemed like a simple question quickly opened up a deeper conversation. Is a sketch merely a tool for communication and planning, or is it already an act of artistic expression? Can it be both practical language of ideas and the first visible trace of imagination?

As we explored architecture as functional art, this question reminded us that even the earliest lines drawn on paper can sit at the intersection of purpose and creativity.

So we’ll ask you too, When you see a sketch, what do you see first function or expression?

At The Roundtable Discussion, we started with a simple question ,is architecture fundamentally art or science?

Each speaker had one minute each.

What we got wasn’t a single definition, but a range of ideas shaped by experience, discipline, and the spaces we all move through daily.

What started as a little discussion between myself and @jamil_isim on architecture art or science? evolved into a live roundtable conversation exploring architecture as “Rethinking Architecture beyond form and function “

Thank you to everyone who contributed online and physically showed up to push this conversation forward.

Special appreciation to @thefriendscafeofficial @treuhandesign for their support.

@sen6ix thank you 🙏🏾 by @borola_blue
