maybe its just where in poland my family is from but i’ve never encountered beef in borscht, and with so many vegan options on the menu - i didn’t expect it! totally on me for not reading the menu more carefully - hoping for a meatless borscht at their standalone location 🙏

absolutely love the vegan pierogi & buraczki however.

happy fat thursday!!! may you eat as many pączki as possible 🖤

✨fat thursday (not tuesday!) was traditionally the final day of feasting in Poland before lent - people feast on all the fatty foods they won’t have during their fast

✨pączki are deep-fried yeasted donuts usually filled with fruit or rose jam and covered in powdered sugar or a glaze

✨eat as many as you can!!! some people think it’s bad luck to not eat a pączek on this day!

📍East Village Meat Market sells pączki only one day a year - and I got the last rose jam one today! (my favorite after plum)

what’s the deal with borscht?

🥣 borscht is a beet-based soup, predominantly eaten is eastern european and northern asia. it has an earthy, lightly sour taste generally

🥣 several ethnic groups claim borscht but it is most commonly associated in the US with polish, ukranian, lithuanian and jewish food

🥣 borscht can come in many forms! hot, cold, strained and brothy, chunky with veggies, served with dumplings. my favorite toppings are a fistful of fresh dill and sour cream, with a slice of bread on the side

🥣 as a polish person, i grew up eating borscht weekly. long stretches without a bowl of borscht make me feel homesick - so i’m on a mission to try all the borscht i can to find my favorite when i don’t feel like cooking by @borscht_bitsch
