Getting chillier and already using the @ororo.wear heated vest again during these past few days of fall feeling morning commutes. September is a busy month and that means it’s a busy month for the @trekbikes Fx+ 7s 🚲 #boston #bikecommute #athlete #ororo #trekbikes taken in Somerville, Massachusetts by @bostoncyclist

A nice rainy day for a bike commute, and for thinking through some bike math on my city ride. 🏙️ I bought this awesome @trekbikes Fx+ 7s when it was launched around Thanksgiving of 2024 so I’ve had it for close to two years now and it’s been a joy to ride… fast, reliable, and fun, it’s a sleeper bike in the best of ways. I ride a distance of 10 miles each way a few days a week to my job as a commercial photographer, and bike commuting has been a life changing way to get to work that I began doing shortly after the pandemic years. I could go on and on about how superior the bike is compared to the subway or train options… for me it’s faster, more fun, and brings me great joy. Having the @tq_ebike motor on board allows me to carry a few @ortlieb_waterproof bags of gear and lowers the misery factor significantly after long days at work, to put it simply this bike has been a reliable workhorse that is also fun to ride. In addition to that trifecta what’s really cool is that I’m right around the point of this bike being a break even investment. I’ve put 3200 commuter miles on it during my ownership, which means I’ve done 160 bike commute round trips of 20 miles each and have enjoyed them all. My alternatives (driving and paying to park, or subway and paying to park) cost around $30 a day, so here’s some quick math that shows just how good of an investment these bikes can be. 160 commutes x $30 = $4800 The Fx+ 7s is a $4500 bike so it’s officially at the point of being a free bike for me and the machine still feels brand new. I am absolutely convinced that cities need to plan for a future where bikes are the best way to get around, it’s just better than the alternatives. In addition to saving money, the decision to bike commute brings so much fitness value and not having to sit in the packed subway cars or the clogged highways as often is simply fantastic. It’s awesome to look back at the success of this purchase for me and I plan to keep this machine rolling for thousands of miles to come. Bike commuting is certainly different and hard in its own ways, but if you are up for it then it’s the best way to handle a city commute.
