Get to know Dame Maeve Webster, founder and president of Menu Matters, food and beverage consultancy. Dame Maeve uses her deep background in culinary and business to work directly with clients and inform industry professionals through presentations and articles. She built Menu Matters to be the source she felt was missing, one willing to step back and ask what all the available information was really saying about consumers, culture and the future of food.

Dame Maeve shared one of her hospitality memories with us. "While in graduate school, a friend and I hosted Thanksgiving for about 30 classmates most of whom were from overseas. It was chaotic and a bit slapdash but so meaningful sharing the traditions with our classmates who had never experienced any Thanksgiving before.".

She loves gardening and feels "There's something almost reverant in being that connected to the food you eat." Maeve enjoys street food also for the connections it makes for her to the source, the history, and the cultural origins.

While open to trying anything, Maeve is not a fan of foods that have an overly soft or mushy texture like brie, oatmeal, or porridge. If you want to delight her suggest a Manhattan cocktail, whether classic style or a modern riff. Cheers Dame Maeve!

Can you believe this legendary James Beard Hall of Fame cookbook author HATED food growing up?

Fantastic interview with Dame Rose Levy Beranbaum @realbakingwithrose and Woody Wolston by Kara Baskin. @kcbaskin At this Les Dames d'Escoffier Boston event we celebrated the release of Rose's new memoir Ma Vie en Rose.

Kara Baskin helped us get to know Rose and Woody-weaving in questions on the serious, funny, and amazing moments of Rose's life and career.

Thank you to Dame Evelyn Schichner owner of @joieencuisine for making us beautiful and delicious mini tarts to welcome @realbakingwithrose

The tart crust recipe was from Rose's book The Pie and Patry Bible. Earlier this year Dame Evelyn taught some of our Dames how to make these tiny pastry treasures.

We had another delightful Table in the Back dinner this time at Fallow Kin in Cambridge MA.

Fallow Kin is a new restaurant by James Beard Nominee, Conor Dennehy and Danielle Ayer, of Talulla in Cambridge, and Marcos Sanchez, formerly of Tasting Counter, Gray’s Hall and Tres Gatos, all in the Boston area.

After tasting the team's delicious creations at Talulla and at our Dame Delicious fundraiser, we were excited to try their beautiful new space. Danielle started us out with their signature bread and butter course. She carefully explained the menu and the thought behind the dishes. We loved seeing their committment to sourcing local foods and working with local and small batch makers.

Our dinner was filled with sharing, chatting, fun, and outstanding food! Thank you Fallow Kin for hosting a great Table in the Back evening!

I had the great honor of meeting Rose @realbakingwithrose several times while I was working on my own new book, Baking with Ancient Grains. Rose’s “Cake Bible”, her “Rose’s Baking Basics” and her many other books in my library helped me understand important concepts when I struggled the most. I discussed the endless challenges of baking with whole flours with her, the search for a publisher and much more.

Rose had nothing but supportive words. At times, it felt as if she believed in my work more than I did!

Rose will be visiting the Boston area this month. She will be speaking about her long “sweet life” at the Temple Beth Elohim in Wellesley on October 15th.

Go and listen to her life story. She’s the best.
