Hi I’m Matt, a photographer from Boston, MA who stays up way too late taking pictures of the universe. 📷🔭

🌞 2 hour time lapse of the Sun using a Daystar Quark Solar filter on my ED102 telescope.

This is not a normal telescope setup. You will DEFINITELY go blind if you point your telescope at the Sun for even a second.!!!!!!

It’s been 80,000 years since this comet has visited our skies. The last time it swung by, modern humans were just starting to migrate out of Africa. I wonder where we will be when it returns in another 80,000 years.

Do you think humans will still be around when this comet returns?

Special thanks to the Granite Links Golf Course for letting us set up shop on their beautiful hill overlooking Boston.

Cherry Springs is one of the last truly dark places east of the Mississippi. Light pollution has robbed us of the beauty above our heads every night. As a result, billions of people around the world have never even seen the Milky Way. No wonder people believe in nonsense like flat earth. They’ve never even seen their place in the universe.

NGC7822 is a vast emission nebula in the constellation Cepheus. It’s about 3,000 light years from Earth.

I took this picture from my backyard with a small telescope and a dedicated astronomy camera.

Milky Way season is coming back fast. This year I’m making a commitment to photograph our galaxy from as many places as possible.

The Eagle Nebula (5,700 light years away) is an open cluster of young stars that are lighting up the hydrogen gas that birthed them. It is also home to the great Pillars of Creation famously captured by the Hubble Space telescope and yours truly.

The light pollution around me gets worse every year. I can’t wait to get out of dodge. May the dark/clear sky gods be kind this summer.

I take pictures of deep space objects from my extremely light polluted back deck right outside of Boston.

I can see the skyline from my neighborhood along with alllll that light.

I take hundreds of long exposure images and stack them all together to pull out the details. Then I process them in photoshop to really extract what’s there in the darkness.

Here is the gear I use
