"35 years leading up to the moment I lost fifty pounds in one day.
The table is cold, flat, the lights blaring – almost like an alien abduction scene out of a sci-fi movie, only this is happening. The doctors make the first cut. Gathered around me are nurses, waiting, ready. Suddenly a cry, my husband leans over me. I see a tear in his eye. It’s our first son being born; they show him to me over the curtain. He looks fat and angry he isn’t warm anymore, and quickly they take him to the incubator to warm him and wipe off all the fluid. His cry warms my heart as I know he is a strong boy, but I knew this already, carrying him for the last 38 weeks has been an incredible journey just to get to this moment of joy, paralyzed on the table all I can do is watch almost as if I’m just a witness to this extraordinary event. And then after some struggling I hear the second cry out, our second son has been born four minutes later, he was a little more stubborn than his brother, but I have done it, delivered full term twins with a healthy pregnancy at the age of 35, what the doctors had considered high risk, and advanced age, and we are all healthy this is the most joyous moment of my life, and all I can do is be grateful after all the fear that I have lived through, to see them now running around at five years old happy, joyful, playful, smart young boys. My children are my greatest joy in life.
The most important thing (and it has taken many setbacks to teach me this) is to not give up. For me, the motivation to keep going has been my children. "
