A birthday dinner at the illustrious Rambagh Palace, at the opulent Suvarna Mahal, and honestly, what an experience!

We'd been meaning to come here for ages, and @tanishka_arora 's birthday was the perfect reason to finally do it. We went in with a very clear agenda: have a royal birthday dinner, drink something fabulous, and find out whether one of Jaipur's most expensive dining experiences was actually worth the hype.

We started with a Jaipore Martini and an Udaipore Martini that come from The Polo Bar, both dangerously easy to drink. A genuine shame I was driving because I could have happily worked my way through several more.

Dinner was fantastic. We came in planning to order the Laal Maas and butter naan and call it a day, but ended up with the Rajputana Laal Maas, the Nalli Nihari and Garlic Naan instead. The laal maas was beautifully spiced, but the surprise winner for me was the nihari.

By dessert we were completely stuffed, but obviously that wasn't going to stop us. The Suvarna Mahal Shahi Tukda and Pushkar Gulab Ice Cream were both excellent, followed by an extremely decadent Belgian chocolate mousse cake for the birthday.

The palace itself is spectacular, the Versace-designed, gold-plated tableware is suitably outrageous, and the staff were exceptional throughout. We even had the chef come out and spend time talking us through the kitchen, spices and menu, which made the evening feel all the more special.

We went on a Monday, so it was wonderfully quiet and we were able to sit, eat, drink and linger for hours.

We went looking for a royal Jaipur birthday dinner and, quite literally, got one.

100/10 recommend the experience.

The iconic @singerushauthup was sitting two tables away at breakfast at the @jaipurmarriott looking completely serene. Decided letting a national treasure enjoy her morning toast in peace was better karma than being an unhinged weirdo, so I’m paying respects via the audio instead.

Ironically, this was the biggest bar hop we've done so far... and somehow the least photographed one.

I guess that's what happens when everyone's too busy talking, laughing, making new friends and actually living the night instead of documenting it.
