POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
My self-produced EP ‘Songs from the Garden’ is released today.

Things grow in the garden and these songs are the product of a journey that started in Scotland 5 years ago with a lot of uncertainty around what I was doing musically and whether it would ever be ‘good enough’.

The first couple of years in particular were productive learning without finding a sound that felt right. Then, in 2023 (around the time Alex and I were writing the Sun Hill EP), I wrote the first of the 5 songs that would end up on Songs from the Garden - I Wish I Knew.

After that things started getting easier and I gradually built a shortlist of songs that had this purity and freedom to them. Not trying to sound like something else but trusting my own preferences and seeing where that went. It was liberating and as I started enjoying my own music more I realised that I had something worth sharing.

I still have this immense fear at the thought of sharing my music. Part of me felt the shortlist still wasn’t good enough and wanted to scrap these songs as just another part of the learning process. If I started from scratch then maybe I could develop my sound even more before the first solo release.

But ultimately these songs felt like such a significant step in my journey that they deserve to be heard. For each one, I felt genuine excitement at the time as I realised that I was capable of writing something that I loved. I hope that those who listen can share some of that joy.

My new single ‘Stargazing’ is out today

This song was written and recorded in one evening in 2024. The layered guitars worked so well that I didn’t want to change anything. I scribbled a few lyrics and recorded vocals as a rough idea but after a while I decided to keep them too.

I did eventually add some harmonies and the break towards the end but there was something about the rawness of it that I wanted to preserve and I hope that those who listen can understand why.

My EP ‘Songs from the Garden’ will be out on 29th May.

Dome 3000 & @bots.music – “Sun Hill”

After more than fifteen years of friendship and musical collaboration, Dome 3000 and Bones of the Sun are stepping into a luminous new chapter with “Sun Hill.” The track radiates a sense of nostalgic warmth while carrying a euphoric, forward-looking energy that feels both timeless and deeply personal.

Named after a hill near Dome 3000’s childhood home on the outskirts of Glasgow, “Sun Hill” is more than just a song—it’s a memory transformed into melody. It’s the place where the two childhood friends used to escape after rehearsals, sitting among the fields and staring at the skyline, dreaming of what their music might one day become. That same sense of wonder and intimacy lives in every harmony and guitar layer of this track.

Now based in London and Copenhagen, the duo blends distance and connection seamlessly. Dome 3000, fresh off the acclaimed When the Dream Comes True EP on Sega Bodega’s ambient tweets label, brings atmospheric sophistication, while Bones of the Sun debuts under his new moniker, setting the stage for his 2026 album. Together, they’ve created something both intimate and expansive—a track that feels equally at home in late-night playlists or cinematic moments.

From my perspective, “Sun Hill” is an elegant, genuine, and deeply intimate piece of art. Its aesthetic reminds me of Boards of Canada, and its emotional resonance carries the same tenderness I feel listening to Nick Drake. It’s a track built on authenticity and vision—a perfect balance of memory and momentum.

Alex and I have been writing music together since we were 13. Most of the time we were just messing around, writing for our entertainment and not intending that anyone should actually have to hear it.

A few years ago something changed. I started picking up my guitar more during covid and, increasingly so in 2022 when my son was born and most evenings had to be spent indoors. A number of months later Alex went through a tough break-up and I encouraged him to pick up his guitar again and start writing as a way of processing it. He did and the results were tremendous. You can hear for yourself in his 2 EPs ‘In Memory’s Garden We Meet Every Day’ (2023) and ‘After the Dream Comes True’ (2025).

During this time, we were sending each other a lot of ideas and, in spring 2023, we found a couple of free weekends to sit down and write together. Across those 2 weekends, we wrote and recorded this EP, using mostly 2 acoustic guitars and Alex’s phone as a recording device. We have since found many more weekends to write a whole host of new music that I can’t wait to share with you. But for now, it is finally time for the Sun Hill EP to see the light of day. Craig

The EP is here now - this is a very personal one. It’s weird to put something out there together after all these years. We always wrote for ourselves, it feels strange to share it, but nice. The music reminds me of summers spent in the fields near my old house, looking out over the city below and being excited about what was still to come. I hope you like it. Alex
