What a day on the bikes.
Fun 24-mile B360 ride with Walker and Cowen, great company, good conversations, and a reminder we are fortunate we are to live in this city. Pretty cool to link miles of riding on paved and multi-use paths.
It also highlights what’s missing…
The demand for mountain biking continues to grow, yet trail access in this town for mountain bikers is laughably horrible. Now @bocoopenspace is talking about a pilot program to reduce access even MORE!?!?! Mountain bikers need More access to trails. Instead, we’re met with outdated management philosophies that treat mountain bikers as a problem to be managed rather than a community to be served…
The current approach from BCPOS feels increasingly archaic and exclusionary. While other communities across the country are expanding access, embracing modern trail design, and creating opportunities for all user groups, mountain bikers here continue to face limited access, restricted opportunities, and an overall user experience that falls far short of what our public lands should provide.
We can celebrate what’s working while also pushing for what needs to improve. Our city and county have an opportunity to build a more balanced trail system—one that reflects today’s recreation needs, supports healthy outdoor lifestyles, and welcomes all users.

Until then, we’ll keep riding, keep showing up, and keep advocating for better access.

Heli’d into Hilda Hut in the Valhallas, BC for a week of touring with Rich & Julie @backcountry_solutions
Conditions ranged from good → marginal → pouring rain, but somehow they hunted up great turns.

The inaugural Trans Azteca 4-Day Blind Enduro in Mexico City unreal local food, gnarly dry trails. Magic streets of Taxco, descending off a volcano at 14,000 ft
Huge gracias to Mau for dreaming this up, putting it all together, and hosting us like family. The community trails, made for a proper adventure. Celebrated Russell’s 40th birthday — even though I may or may not have gifted him the flu as a party favor.
Gracias por todos. Until next year. 🇲🇽💀🔥 by @botsyphillips

My dad, Steve Phillips, passed away at 82. He squeezed every drop out of life and managed to live many lives within those years. His motto seemed to be: if anything is worth doing, it’s worth overdoing.
Family is complicated and wonderful, and my relationship with him held all of that. He taught me countless lessons—some in what to do, and others in what not to do. Both shaped who I am and what I value.
For that, I will always be grateful. Still the most beautiful skier I have ever witnessed with my own eyes.
Rest easy, Dad.
A funeral will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Essex, NY on Friday 9/26 at 11am. A reception will follow for family and friends to warmly share memories of Steve. by @botsyphillips

Cowen took off for a wild Outward Bound sailing expedition in the foggy, salty air of coastal Maine — 16 and psyched. A couple weeks later, I drove back van loaded and ready for some detours.
Camped and climbed in Rumney.
Visited Uncle Whitney and crew in Warren, just in time for the legendary 4th of July parade.
Swimming holes, fireflies, and bike rides with family in Stowe and Warren.
Stopped in to see Uncle Harper.
Introduced Walker to my 82-year-old dad, Flippy — three generations under one roof. Saw old friends, visited the home town and felt the VT humidity.
29 hours back to Boulder with Cowen riding shotgun, swapping music, stories, snacks and silence.
Grateful for these wild, full-circle weeks. by @botsyphillips
