Can you believe how different these lift ticket prices are??

I am still SHOCKED at how much cheaper it is to ski in the Alps, and the exchange rate is close to 1:1.

Taking a ski trip to the Alps instead of the US offers many advantages. Here’s why you might want to consider heading to Europe for your next trip:

1. Cost

Lift tickets in the Alps are MUCH more affordable than in the US, as shown above. All of the multi-resort passes (@ikonpass, @mountaincollectivepass, @epicpass, and @indyskipass) have resorts in the Alps. Hotels & rental cars are often cheaper too. The cost of the flight depends on a lot of factors, but I booked a round trip flight to Europe less than 24 hours before take off for 40k miles or the equivalent of $400. Food costs are similar but the quality is so much better.

2. Massive Terrain and Unique Ski Experiences

The Alps offer huge interconnected resorts with massive ski areas. For example: 3 Vallées in France connects several resorts, with over 600 km of skiable terrain. The Dolomiti Superski area in Italy has over 1,200 km of slopes on a single pass.

3. Cultural Experience and Charm

The charm of historic mountain villages with unique local cuisines and breathtaking beauty makes a trip to the Alps unforgettable. In comparison, many US resorts are purpose-built and lack the old-world charm found in Europe. This part of the trip alone is worth the effort.

4. Après-Ski and Off-Piste Activities

The après-ski scene in the Alps is world-renowned, with lively events and après bars in spots like St. Anton or Verbier. You’ll find everything from scenic train rides to historic towns nestled within ski areas. This kind of diversity isn’t as prevalent at many US resorts.

5. Fewer Crowds

While both the Alps and US have popular resorts, the Alps feature sprawling areas that distribute skiers more evenly.
Additionally, European resorts are less prone to weekend crowd surges since many skiers stay for extended holidays rather than short trips. Further, several hundred resorts in each country provide many uncrowded options. by @bottomlesspowder
