Konark Sun Temple is a 13th-century CE Hindu Sun temple at Konark about 35 kilometres (22 mi) northeast from Puri city on the coastline in Puri district, Odisha, India.[1][2] The temple is attributed to king Narasingha Deva I of the Eastern Ganga dynasty about 1250 CE.[3][4] It is the pinnacle of Hindu Orissan architecture.[according to whom?] Dedicated to the Hindu Sun-god Surya, it reflects the pinnacle of kalingan architecture and artistic excellence, what remains of the temple complex has the appearance of a 100-foot (30 m) high chariot with immense wheels and horses, all carved from stone. Once over 200 feet (61 m) high,[1][5] much of the temple is now in ruins, in particular the large shikara tower over the sanctuary; at one time this rose much higher than the mandapa that remains. The structures and elements that have survived are famed for their intricate artwork, iconography, and themes, including erotic kama and mithuna scenes. Also called the Surya Devalaya, it is a classic illustration of the Odisha style of Architecture or Kalinga architecture taken in Konark Surya Mandir Puri In Odisha by @bowlquickest

Badami itself is not a World Heritage Site, but it is a key component of the tentative World Heritage Site designation "Evolution of Temple Architecture – Aihole-Badami-Pattadakal". This designation recognizes the historical importance of the region, where the Early Chalukya Dynasty developed a new style of temple architecture in rock-cut caves and structural temples. Pattadakal, also part of this group, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while Aihole and Badami are considered the "cradle of Indian temple architecture" and are also candidates for inclusion.  #instagram #naturephotography #reels #hills #handmade #travel taken in Badami, Pattadkal, Aihole by @bowlquickest

The Bhutanatha group of temples are 7th to 12th century Hindu temples to the east of Agastya lake in Badami, Karnataka state, India. It consists of two subgroups – one called the East Bhutanatha group or Bhutanatha main group from 7th to 8th century mostly in the Dravida architecture style; the other called the North Bhutanatha group or Mallikarjuna group from 11th to 12th century mostly in the Nagara architecture.[1][2] The former illustrates the Badami Chalukya architects, the latter along with the nearby Yellamma temple the Kalyani Chalukya architects.

Karnataka, for warmth and memorable experiences!

Ambassador May-Elin Stener's visit was an opportunity to explore Karnataka's rich cultural, architectural, and culinary treasures:

▲ Impressive 6th-century temples at Aihole, the cradle of temple architecture in India

Remarkable #UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Hampi and Pattadakal.

According to Richard Solomon – an Indologist specializing in epigraphical records, the Aihole inscription is a useful source of simple facts such as the date of Meguti Jain temple, Ravikirti’s role in building it, the fame of Kalidasa, the state of language and literature in early 7th-century.

Pattadakal region was settled in pre-historic times, as evidence by megalithic dolmens. Located along the Malprabha river where it turns north, its red color soil and stone mountains nearby attracted its mention in ancient and medieval era Indian texts. The modern town contains the 7th and 8th century collection of nine Hindu and one Jain temple built by the Chalukya dynasty. It is considered by UNESCO as the masterpiece of architectural forms from northern and southern India, that made the town and nearby region as the cradle of temple architecture and arts.

The Badami Fort was founded by Pulakeshin I, the first sovereign ruler of the Badami Chalukya, who captured the hilltop of Vatapi (Badami) and “fortified it” in 543 CE.[1] The inscriptions says that Pulakeshin I who ruled from 540 CE to 567 CE had performed the Vedic Ashvamedha sacrifice and took possession of the hill of Vatapi. From his reign, Badami (then called Vatapi) served as the Chalukya capital.[2] Later, Pulakeshin’s successors consolidated Chalukya control over much of the Deccan. In the early 7th century, King Pulakeshin II
