Killer weekend for diggin and ridin. @nolinenecessary and me spent Saturday clearing some trees and cutting in some fresh tread including a steep, tight corner. Before picture of this is pic 4 and the after is 5. Whole section is pic 1. Took advantage of a little precip and got some more tread cut in today. Yesterday's work unlocked the bottom 300' feet of vert (out of 800') so the DH is over half done. The last bit will be duffy side hilling, mostly rake and ride but will build some sweepers and grade reversals to get the most distance out of it. I think the DH will come in at 1.1-1.2 miles with 800' drop. Pic 2 shows a tree gap/corner cutter that will have to happen. Today was an awesome day to be out with the fog and moisture. Hiking back up, getting graupelled on and pretty worked I could smell smoke from the wood stove fire @bunnyball04 had going. #smallbatchtrails update! A mild winter has allowed me to get a little over 300' dug in on the DH on the north facing slope in 30 hours of work over several dig sessions. It's been inches of duff over rock so has been interesting digging. There's been some decent dirt too and some rock work. We're at just shy of 500' vertical descent as of today and will get another 250'-300' by the time the DH is complete. It's been awesome making progress on the trail this month. I'm averaging 10ft of trail built an hour. There will be one more section across the slope and then a rocky chicane through the gut of the drainage and into the trees. @bunnyball04 and I decided to alter the original route slightly to add a little distance and get into the rocks more. That is the next section to be built mentioned above. First pic is the whole of new trail this month, about 200' and the other pictures showing more individual sections. More progress on the DH! Killer Saturday digging and riding with @gnarleychar @j9_and_the_mtnmutts @drluke @abbymattern
We got a lot done! About 100' worth.
@bunnyball04 and I are stoked on how this trail is coming along. If we can stay on pace through the summer, the DH portion could be completed by winter. Super thankful for this opportunity to build a trail.

Slow going but going over the last 5-6 weeks on the trail. Mostly roughing in, clearing corridor and getting big rocks in place. Got only 10-12' roughed in today but moved a couple rocks that each weighed around 450lbs to reinforce critical edge at the bottom of a steep left hander. @bunnyball04 and I got some big anchor rocks in place higher in the corner a couple weeks ago. The trail is going to zig zag through this drainage, then will get into some dark timber until the bottom, then we begin the trail back out. I estimated this would take 5 years to get a rideable loop in. Two years in and I think we're on schedule. #stoked #buildtrail #smallbatchtrails #digtoride #mtb by @boxcarmtb

Back on the progress train. The north slope melted out. The ground was still a little frozen but was workable. Cut in the top of the descent and tied it into previous work. 2nd pic is a "before" shot of today's work. The rest are ""after" shots. Stoked to get started on the next portion of trail this weekend. This is the third segment and will be the main DH. Had to skip the very beginning because the ground was too hard to dig but will get to it once the weather allows. Got a little over 60' of tread in. Airn planted some trees and did some killer rock work. Coming up will be a wide radius corner through a bunch of janky rock.

The last few weeks have been productive. Taylor @theshiftoutdoors and me got an alternate line going at the top, a little chute with a skipper into the corner. Super fun. After a lot of hiking I got the route for the next part of the DH figured out and started roughing in a bit. I'm real stoked on the tree section so I roughed in some stuff in there just to get a better visual. It's north facing and may be snowed in for a bit now. Plenty of south facing stuff for @bunnyball04 and me to work on this winter though. Stoked on the progress! Pictures are a mix of some I took and some Taylor took.
