Marcos “El Chino” Maidana knocked Adrien Broner down with a leaping left hook in 2013. Maidana won the match eventually via UD. 👊🏻

There’s still people who think that leaping punches are blasphemy, but those people are not very smart. Just like the ones who think that you need to keep the opposite hand glued to the forehead when you punch. That doesn’t work in full speed, like you see for example in this video. 🔥

Svedberg’s Strength Endurance Circuit by @elias_kunnas

This circuit has been pretty popular in Finland among wrestlers (especially Greco-Roman) and MMA fighters. It’s very easy to scale. Start with 10-20 kilos and add weight if you can. If you do this all the way up, you’ll get 240 reps in total. If you come back down also, it’s 420 reps. Finnish Greco-Roman Wrestling Legend Marko “Myhi” Yli-Hannuksela (2xOly medalist) has done this with 50 kilos.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think the circuit is named after this gentleman:
Per Vilhelm Rudolf “Preven” Svedberg (19 August 1910 – 24 June 1992) was a welterweight Greco-Roman wrestler from Sweden. He won gold medals at the 1936 Summer Olympics and 1935 European Championships, finishing second in 1938. Between 1934 and 1944 he won ten national titles.

@elias_kunnas is a retired pro MMA fighter (4-2-1, 1). Some of his results: Cooper’s test 3430m, bench press 130kg, squat 170kg, deadlift 220kg, weighted chin-up 70kg @ 77kg body weight.

Felix “Tito” Trinidad 38-0 beat Fernando “El Feroz” Vargas 20-0 via KO in 2000. This is the second knockdown in the 12th round, the third one ended the fight. Excellent battle, worth watching. 💪

“Tito’s” left hook technique is near perfect. Heavy stance, wide and powerful palm-in hook, no pivot. 🔥

The long awaited rematch between Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams took place on November 20, 2010.

Williams won a controversial 12 round majority decision in the first. Martinez was the clear winner in the rematch with one of the scariest knockouts ever. Timing beats speed.😬

It was the @theringmagazine KO of the year 2010.

@georgehardwickmma made a post about a recent UFC fight that ended via knockout after @drewdober threw a beautiful lead hook + rear straight combo. Here’s an old tutorial of mine of a similar technique. 🤌

#feintandpunchseries vol. 3
Hook with a step, feint the hook and surprise with a rear cross down the pipe.
👊 Keep the hooks easy
👊 Heavy stance, no pivot
👊 Be unpredictable
👊 Push with the rear foot
👊 Start easy; don’t try too hard

This is a good way to set up the rear straight. Best way to hit with it is to wait for your opponent to either open their guard because of the hook feint or start coming at you. Boom!

Works well against an opponent in the same stance, but is even better against the opposite stance. 🔥

James “Lights Out” Toney is one of the very best Philly Shell boxers of all time.

He used it both in defence and offense. Attacking and staying in the pocket while not having the hands up requires a lot of focus, confidence and the ability to see when the opponent is attacking. Skills pay the bills.

In this clip Toney stops Tim Littles in 1994. Flat feet and bending at the waist work like a charm. Such a beautiful display of effortless boxing skill. Take notes and understand that there’s so much more than just the regular high guard in boxing/fighting. 🔥

Left hook to the solar plexus by @calebplant 😱

Aiming the left body punch to the liver is more common than hitting the solar plexus, but the latter can work great too. Especially if the opponent is waiting for a liver shot and leaves space in the middle.

Again, staying relaxed and quick works like a charm. There’s no tight high guard, because it would make the technique a lor harder to pull off. “Perfect form” is often overrated. 👊🏻

Tokyo 2020 Olympic Boxing’s best knockout was scored in the 75 kg final. 😱

@hebertwilianboxe dropped the number one seed of the Olympics to become the Champion. Hebert Sousa was down 20-18 on all three scorecards before landing this monstrous left hook to stop Oleksandr Khyzhniak. 🔥

The hook is very close to a perfect one. Relaxed motion, vertical fist, push with the left foot (no pivot) and perfect balance before, during and after the punch. 😮

Khyzhniak would probably have been allowed to continue if he would have cleared his head a bit before standing back up. He stood up right away and was on shaky legs which forced the ref to step in. What do you think about the stoppage? 🧐
