Yoinking! My personal method for colorwork that results in perfect floats that are not so tight that it messes with your tension or are too long and get caught in things! I swear by this method! (I made this video in my car while waiting for my son’s music lesson. Multitasking!)

1: knit 2 handed- one color in each hand. I literally taught myself continental knitting so I could do colorwork this way. 100% worth it! I knit a whole stockinette sweater in continental to get the hang of it.

2 (optional): the dominant color should be in the left hand, if you care about these things. Some don’t! Look up dominant color for knitting if you want more info about it.

3: when it is time to switch colors just insert your needle into the next stitch like you’re about to knit it and hold the 2 needles and the stitch together with your left hand and then YOINK! the stitches on the right needle with the free hand. Then just bring the yarn you need across the back of the work (don’t pull or worry about the length, just lay it across) and knit the next stitch. That’s it! So easy.

I also randomly yoink as I go- I find it helps keep my knitting moving along nicely and my tension is always perfect.

I am well out of practice for my skating but it’s still so fun and freeing to be out on the ice- especially in this magical setting! The perfect conditions for skating on wild ice are rare and fleeting so you have to jump when it’s good! I feel so lucky to be able to experience this, I hope you enjoy a little peek into the magic of Alaska! We skated 7 miles this day and only stopped because of cold cheeks. 🥰

I’m packing up to head east for a super fun filled weekend at @awoolenaffair and New York Sheep and Wool! I can’t decide what to pack- it’s such a hard decision because sweaters take up so much room that takes away space for yarn purchases. A true conundrum!

You can find me at A Woolen Affair on Friday! I’ll be in the @ritualdyes booth from 2-3, then doing a fun panel presentation with fellow designers @dreareneeknits and @sari_n_ hosted by the super talented @making_co (I’m kinda scared about this one 😂)

Then on Saturday I’ll just be strolling the fairgrounds aimlessly with my assistant/yarn carrier Andy. He just knit his first ever project A WHOLE SWEATER for Rhinebeck so if you see him you can definitely compliment his work if you want to surprise him! Swipe to the last slide so you know who to look for. 😉 I’ll be wearing my cabinmates sweater and customized @degen shorts so maybe it’ll be easy to spot me. Come say hi I love meeting knitters!

The Halibut sweater made an appearance on the Netflix show Below! Thanks to everyone who shared this with me, it’s so cool and surreal to see my work pop up in unexpected places like this.

I designed this sweater 5(!!!!) years ago when we first moved back to Alaska. Homer is known as the “halibut fishing capital of the world” and I was so excited to be back home that I wanted to celebrate by designing something inspired by this beautiful place I love. It’s been so fun to see where this design has gone since then and all the people who’ve loved it. ❤️ by @boylandknitworks

Heck yeah I am a sucker for a (sorta) classic yoke sweater in @spincycle_yarns! The new version of Dream State is extremely dreamy! I am using it here with @ritualdyes Marona 🤎
Something new and wintery is in the works and I don’t want to do anything but keep working on it!

Also I decided to extend my Labor Day sale till 9/9 because I’m the boss and I can do what I want! No code needed- enjoy!
