Being a musician is one of the greatest blessings in my life… and once again, @theartistgardenla reminded me why the journey of the artist is so necessary and sacred 💫

I’m still processing and integrating our very first songwriting retreat. This past weekend, 15 of us hunkered down in the mountains, grouped into 5 bands with the goal of each writing and recording a track. Set against a backdrop of the mountains, forest and harvest moon, we cooked! 🦅

Needless to say, the process took us on a journey that touched on many things: imposter syndrome, trust, vulnerability, discomfort, connection, community and freedom of expression. We cranked all day and night with our teams - disappearing into little studio caves, swapping gear, figuring out our processes, sharing stir crazy moments of giggle fits and ultimately, helping each other cross this imaginary finishing line.

One person pointed out that a year ago, nearly all of us hadn’t even met. What started as a bi-weekly accountability meeting, has materialized and blossomed beautifully in the material world. This year, we’ve shared shows, releases and made plans. This trip was a testament to what we can create together when we keep saying “yes” and we keep showing up (even when it feels hard). Much like our meetings - where we set incremental goals, ask for help and offer our support - this trip took shape and ultimately happened because of a shared vision and group effort.

Thank you to @_simha_ and @scatter.braindead for leading the way and making this important space a reality for us. I know that we all needed this for our own reasons and learned from it (technically, emotionally and spiritually) in our own ways. To my band mates @softpower.wav and @xanofmars thank you for teaching me, challenging me, making me laugh (a lot) and being such gracious collaborators. I feel like we really did the thing and came out of this experience with a banger track, and more importantly, as deeper friends. Love you two dooown 🫂

To everyone else, thank you for all of the space we’ve created together this year. Everyone here has left a big impression in my life. I can’t wait to do it again!

@rockyheron since the day we met at the Burn and first fell in love, you have been a pillar in my life. We didn’t know what that love meant at the time and while we tried to figure out how we “already knew one another,” our souls had already connected the dots. To this day my memory doesn’t quite have that first encounter fully captured; I think because my heart so naturally and effortlessly inserted you into every beginning, middle and end in my life. The detail of it overwritten by the sheer magnitude of what having you in my life would mean.

It’s been over a decade since then… countless adventures, weird and wonderful environs, so many ugly laughs, uglier cries and wtf shadoozas. We have been partners in navigating so much of life’s ups and downs. Beautiful beginnings and grieve-filled endings. Love, loss, versions of ourselves we let go of and transformations we never imagined. I said it shortly after meeting and I will say it until I lose the ability to use my words… you are my sure thing. The ride or die who always has my back, calls me on my bullshit and gets under my skin in the way only someone I can’t do this life without is capable of managing.

As you enter this new chapter - “the 4th floor” as someone recently said to me and have since adopted - my wish is that you always see the value that you bring to the spaces you inhabit. That the love you pour into others feels reciprocated in the ways people love and hold you. I hope that you continue to create and recreate yourself fearlessly in the ways that already do with such grace. You teach so many in this world. You’ve taught and reflected back so much to me. You’ve given me access to a level of unconditional love (through yourself, @candyheron and our shared communities) I didn’t realize I could have.

I love you bestie. Objectively speaking: we just keep getting better and better and I want nothing more than to keep navigating this wild life together. What a gift to enter our 40s together, bestie. Sure things forever and forever Boo Bear. Happy Birthday. I love you 🫂🎂

Personal camera dump from this weekend. A very cute day was had! So grateful to bring @sungaybrunch to Los Angeles - a community and event that really shaped my time living in Mexico City 🪅

As much as I felt the thread of that past connection and nostalgia light up - I also felt so much gratitude for the new threads here; for the community I get to be apart of in LA and all of the incredible talent here I get to witness and share! 🫂
