Long long time ago at the Maximum Rocknroll office…every record they’d ever been sent had green tape around the edges so you couldn’t steal em. Tim Yo, the founder of the magazine, would often make his own covers if he didn’t like the original (or, in the case of YES LA, if it didn’t have one). I once made from hand a three or four page layout of my favorite of the Tim Yo covers…Great magazine…a treasure annihilated by perfidy…you can tell it’s an ancient photo as I have pimples which I cured myself of by accidentally totally displacing ALL hormones from my body via an intense chemical regimen by @bracebelden

A number of years ago I found the record “HEART OF THE CITY” by CONAN in Grooves in SF. I bought it because of the cover and I thought the title song was catchy…the story is too long, too much explaining, but a few years later a supergroup made up of various Bay Area musicians (and me, because despite being a lousy musician I got the gig because I had the Conan record) backed him up to a packed house at the Knockout. We were snizzed out of our Minds. He couldn’t believe it how excited everyone was: he’d been playing Christian music in Hawaii in relative obscurity for decades. His husband, who he met in a Greyhound station in Sacramento, filmed the show. Conan had a red suit and a cane with a dogs head. He told me he once played a show in Montana and while he was onstage someone blew the bartenders head off, so after that he travelled with a .45 in his amp always. He also made the first toilet bowl guitar. Come to think of it, the Conan gig technically the last show I ever played besides reunion gigs. Fine with me! by @bracebelden
