As a family, we support each other in accomplishing at least one bucket list item per year. Last weekend was a BIG one for me. I've loved cars and racing since as long as I can remember and have always wanted to run in an endurance race. I have a fair bit of experience through autocross, karting and track days, however, I'd never been wheel-to-wheel racing in cars. In multi-class racing you must constantly be aware, watching mirrors, managing traffic, and putting in clean, quick, and consistent laps for 2hrs before handing the car off to the next driver (4 total) who is depending on you to bring the car home in one piece. Joining a well established, front-running team of awesome people was an added bonus and I'm so grateful for @bapull0 for putting in a good word and trusting me to join the Bunny Boys Racing crew.

Saturday went well and our team finished 2nd and 4th in class of 28, and 16th/18th of 63 overall (including the 2 other faster classes). During my ~1:50 stint I had a momentary loss of focus and got spooked by a car in my mirrors, thinking they were going to divebomb to the inside. Locking up my brakes, I had my first ever off-track car adventure but recovered and rejoined safely. Bummed to make a mistake but I immediately watched the video post-race to figure out what happened and learn so I don't make it again. Our 4th place car lost its transmission for our final driver in the final corner at the checkered flag. Davis was able to limp it home!

After some seriously creative brainstorming on options for Sunday, the team ultimately decided to run one car. Somehow they decided to give me a seat. For that I'm so grateful! John, our first driver put down amazing times until he radioed in that the car was broken. It turned out to be a snapped axle. Davis worked super fast but also hit a couple unexpected snags and we were in the pits for ~16 mins. Back on-track but in 23rd place and many laps down, John put in a solid drive and made his way to 14th. Todd was up next with another strong drive and made it to 12th. Other than the axle, luck was on our side catching some well-timed yellow flags for pit stops. I jumped in the car 3rd. (More in comments) taken in Portland International Raceway by @brad.herley

It's been a rollercoaster of a year and this momma has never been MORE excited for Summer! Proud of these two for all they have learned and endured and how much they have grown. Now let's go relax on the lakes and trails and read some good books! by @brad.herley

As the checkered flag waves on the 2025 karting season I'm proud of our little dude for earning 2nd in overall points with @psgka_raceway (Jr1 206). While never making it to the top spot, Benton was consistent in performance and also attended most races. Developing grit and strong work ethic in my kids are some of my top parent goals and racing is a great way to get there.

I'd like to first thank @tessa.herley and Emma for ALL of their support and understanding. We were at various tracks across the Northwest many days this year and they dedicated tremendous time and sacrifice. Emma's post-race smiles and hugs are the best ❤️

Big thanks to @hugglerracingengines for fielding a great team and all of the support. We've learned so much! We were super lucky to work with @sethappel2 at regional races this year as our tuner and coach. He had a great way of connecting with Benton. Thanks to @425motorsports for their partnership and helping keep all of our gear ready to hit the starting line.

I also took P2 overall in one of the classes I raced this season (Sr. 100cc) but this isn't about me :) We're excited for 2026! by @brad.herley

Survived and thrived for 5 days across the 5 Disney World parks! The kids agreed with the tagline of "The happiest place on Earth", @tessa.herley and I had some fun too 😁. We averaged over 20k steps per day with Tessa's stellar planning and preparation. Characters were seen and many rides had. First regional Burly Super Cup race weekend of 2025 at @tricitykartclub is in the books. We approach each race with two objectives; 1) HAVE FUN and 2) learn. Strong results are of course always desired but it's the journey to get there that is so critical.

Benton shaved over 6 seconds (an eternity!) off his best lap from Friday to Sunday and came away with more confidence. He LOVES race starts and it's so fun to see him continually get great starts and pick up a few spots with racecraft. This was the first time working with Seth as our mechanic and coach. He did a great job communicating with Benton in a way he'd understand, often with numbers after learning that's how Benton often thinks.

I was consistently mid-pack of 21 in a deep field but well off my season goal of a regional podium. I learned a ton about kart setup as we looked to keep up with changing conditions. Another learning moment occurred when I forgot to buckle my helmet and was black flagged in the final race. That was the first and last time that will happen but reinforced the need for a consistent pre-race routine.

I'd like to thank Doug, Lori and the team at @hugglerracingengines for all of the support and Seth for great wrenching and coaching. Benton and I are excited to partner with @425motorsports this year and highly recommend their shop for your gear needs. Thanks to @zitao_media for covering the race and action in the HRE pit along with @shotsby.day for capturing some great shots of Benton on track. We're also always incredibly appreciative of @tessa.herley and Emma's support and time away from home to go racing! On to round 2 next month in McMinnville, OR.

Wishing @rileehayes the HAPPIEST of 18th Birthdays! Wow, time has really flown. I remember so clearly waiting and waiting for that phone call from your Dad that you had finally arrived. You have shown me how immense the love an Aunt has for their nieces (and nephews) can grow.
