Rocky boy… we are forever grateful for the time that you gave us, though it will never feel like enough. Degenerative myelopathy may have stole your ability to walk but it never stole your spirit or the joy others experienced being near you. The house feels empty without your large physical presence and I know Samantha 🐾 feels it too 🥹 till we meet again. We love you! We have known each other for 15 years and have been through just about everything together. It all started out in Brazil when Dan (@cabrito13) noticed the talent of a young 14 YO kid named Yago from Florianopolis. Dan is an excellent talent scout who has built strong rosters for both the brand and management side. At the time, he was the team manager for @volcombrasil and brought Yago on board. In a short time, Yago’s talent progressed at an incredible rate. He soon became globally recognized as a free-surfing star. Brad (@braddougherty) was heading up global surf marketing for Volcom and quickly secured Yago to the global team. From that point, we have all worked together signing many multi-year contracts and building the relationship. Yago, Dan and Brad have traveled together, made films together (starting with Psychic Migrations) and have helped each other navigate as Yago’s competitive career took off. Yago’s recent success on the @wsl Championship Tour has been nothing but amazing. Every year he gets better and consistently brings his A-Game to the events! Almost 5 months ago I was terminated by Liberated Brands as a result of a company wide layoff due to a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. I had spent 26 years with Volcom, a few years with Captain Fin, and 1 /1/2 years with Billabong, RVCA and Honolua Surf Company. The last 18 months was a masterclass in my new position as Global Head of Sports Marketing - all sports - 5 brands. Although sad, I was so grateful for a lifetime of learning and experience. As I watched the changes with these brands happening in front of me I had a choice to make. I could either look for a job or pursue my dream to start my own business. The choice was clear - I didn’t apply for any jobs. Instead, I chose to bet on myself and take control of my future. I hit the ground running by developing the backend to launch a new business. It will never be easy, but nothing worthwhile in life is. I will take all of my experience, knowledge and relationships into this next chapter. Today - that new chapter begins and I am proud to announce the beginning of Apex Marketing Group, Inc.! This company will represent the things that I am most passionate about: Athletes, Marketing and Brands.
