It’s kinda chic, right? 🥰

It’s also kinda chic to commission real art from human artists! Shoutout to @legendsofaukera, @frejj.art, and @finnferloss who have illustrated the characters and world of Ulstra so beautifully. ✨

What if the characters from Crystals of Ulstra could pick a favorite pop diva from our world? Here are some of my best guesses about who they’d be superfans of 💖

Lazuro > Celine Dion
Rubena > Mariah Carey
Gerda > Lady Gaga
Koralo > Dolly Parton

Which character would you be spinning records with? 🎶

The pigeons of Ulstra are inspired by a combination of the famous messenger pigeon and the incredibly diverse pigeons of Australia, including fruit doves, emerald doves, bronzewings, spinifex pigeons, and crested pigeons.

In Ulstra, pigeons are treated with kindness and respect. They live in custom dovecotes, elaborate structures built to keep them safe, dry, and well-fed. People living in remote areas may have a single pigeon, while populous cities boast larger coops.

Pigeons come in an endless array of color combinations and dramatic feather displays. The variety and adaptability of the species lets them flourish in every part of the world.

This beautiful artwork is by @bardandbestiary.author 🪶💚 I am so thrilled with how she imagined these gorgeous creatures through her art. She is so talented, and a fellow animal lover! We will definitely work together again.

CRYSTALS OF ULSTRA FAQ: How did Australia inspire Ulstra?

So many ways! From the name, to the geography, to the animals. I hope to visit Australia myself one day. I’m sure it will feel like taking a step into Ulstra.

Farinosa is an icon in the world of Ulstra. Not only is she the head of the most famous fashion house in Cevali, she represents the free city on the Konsilio of Mago, a governing body for Ulstra’s mages.

G’day readers! One of my favorite parts of research while drafting Crystals of Ulstra has been the countless hours spent watching nature documentaries about Australia. So many real-world Aussie places have inspired the environment and setting of Ulstra, the world from my book.

Here’s a look at a few. Which ones would you like to visit most?

#australia #bookstagram #crystalsofulstra #books #indieauthor by @bradleybowen

When he is thrust into a war started by a mad king half a continent away, Koralo meets a dashing Kavaliro soldier and highly trained Silver Swordsman named Roko. Roko’s confident charisma quickly wins Koralo over, and their attachment grows. Koralo slowly realizes that he may still have room in his heart for romance and love after all.
