If it’s true that the essence of the beautiful is unity in variety, then Olympic National Park is a marvelously beautiful place. taken in Olympic National Park by @bradleyhfuller

A wonderful few days in a breathtakingly majestic place with some of the finest people. What a powerful thing to see the staggering scale of Mount Rainier and the elemental power on full display there—even behind a veil of wildfire smoke. Here’s hoping this beautiful place and all of our national parks can withstand the worst ravages of climate change and the efforts of those who would spoil them for profit or place them in private hands. taken in Mount Rainier National Park by @bradleyhfuller

A highlight of 2025 was my trip to Capri and the Amalfi Coast. The views along the Path of the Gods, a boat ride to Capri, and a trip up to the gardens of Villa Cimbrone at Ravello were magnificent—and made up for the often overwhelming crowds. Just beyond the slammed streets and stores of Positano and ferries and buses filled to maximum capacity, there’s an undeniable sense of magic lurking in the sea caves with jewel-tone water, the weathered towers of medieval churches and 19th century villas, and the fragrant groves of fig trees standing serenely on the mountainsides.

Like generations of travelers who have visited the region, I found myself awed and inspired. Here’s to more moments of discovery and adventure, of looking back over the path traveled and envisioning what’s next, of taking in the broader view of things while still seeking the magic that lies just beneath the surface. by @bradleyhfuller

🐎Ultra latergram alert, but Italy is timeless, right? A highlight of my trip back in August was the Palio di Siena—a centuries-old horse race that takes place in the town square (campo) twice yearly and features 10 of the medieval city’s 17 districts (contrade) vying for the banner (palio)—and bragging rights. The race itself is over in a flash, but the colorful pageantry, fascinating traditions, sense of anticipation, and delightfully chaotic atmosphere make for an unforgettable experience. (I was rooting for Bruco, the Caterpillar Contrada, whose horse and jockey were separated at an especially tricky angle of the racecourse.) Well worth checking out! taken in Siena by @bradleyhfuller

Florence: the Cradle of the Renaissance. Between the Uffizi Gallery and the Galleria dell’Accademia (where Michelangelo’s David stands as readily defiant as ever), I was overwhelmed by the history, beauty, and power of all the art I encountered. The city’s streets, squares, towers, domes, and bridges were equally inspirational, calling this armchair urbanist to exploration even in searing summer temperatures to rival those back in South Carolina. But the incredible food and drink made taking a break easy. And the people? Top notch. A grand time in that perennial favorite of the Grand Tour! by @bradleyhfuller

These snapshots of Venice belie just how packed the city was with tourists like me when I visited (my penchant for Hopperesque, unpeopled scenes prevails again). The Floating City is incredibly photogenic, and as filled with history, culture, and charm as it is with canals—and sightseers. Sadly, ”La Serenissima” seemed troubled by visiting crowds to an extent I didn’t notice elsewhere in Italy, as if it were sinking under the weight of more than its decadent old palazzi.

My time in the Veneto region was complemented by a fun and all-too-quick excursion to Verona. It was as easy to imagine Romeo and Juliet’s star-crossed relationship blossoming there as it was to find myself immersed in another story of doomed lovers: that told in a thrilling production of Verdi’s opera Aida in the Roman arena at the city’s center. I left on the train enchanted and sorry I couldn’t stay longer. by @bradleyhfuller

Back too soon from Italy. My trip started in Rome, rightfully called the Eternal City and Caput Mundi (“capital of the world”) for its long and venerable history. I was amazed by how richly multi-layered and delightfully contradictory Rome is, making it one of the most *human* cities of them all, as a friend put it. Order and chaos, the sacred and the profane, beauty and decay, bustling activity and intimate warmth—you can find them all there. May the coin I tossed in the Trevi Fountain work its magic and take me there again someday taken in Rome, Italy by @bradleyhfuller

*Latergram Advisory* The last town heading east on the French Riviera before the Italian border, Menton is as charming as it is colorful. A climb up the escaliers is well worth it for the view from the plaza in front of the iconic Basilique Saint-Michel Archange. You can also head to a pebbly beach for a dip in the Mediterranean’s azure waters, sample some lemony treats that nod to the regions citrus-growing heritage, take a tourist train around town for some interesting history and vistas, or get lost in the town’s narrow, winding streets. And Menton is just one destination of many on the Côte d’Azur—hoping to visit more on future trips! taken in Menton, Provence-Alpe-CĂŽte D'azur by @bradleyhfuller

Finally made it to Vienna last month, and the city was as stunning as this architecture and music lover could have hoped for. And even in the midst of all the grandeur and beauty, it was immediately apparent why the Austrian capital is consistently ranked as the world’s most livable city. The history around every corner, cozy cafe culture, abundant transit, and built environment—what’s not to like? In fact, the only thing I found lacking was the supposed rudeness of the city’s residents. Consider me thoroughly charmed taken in Vienna, Austria by @bradleyhfuller
