Passé was shot 2 years ago in a warehouse in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with 60 dancers across New York ballet companies and schools.

A year of planning - every formation, every piece of production equipment and personnel. Such a brilliant day.

Brad Walls (@bradscanvas) transforms everyday scenes into abstract compositions by changing the way we see them. Working primarily from above, the Australian aerial photographer finds unexpected geometry, movement, and patterns in subjects ranging from ballet and synchronized swimming to architecture and every day life.

In his exhibition “Moving Life, Still Art,” Walls brings together some of his most notable series, including “Passé,” “Blue Harmony,”and “Gyeol.” The show invites viewers to reconsider the shapes, patterns, and movement that surround us every day, offering a different perspective on the familiar.

“Moving Life, Still Art” is on view at Ground Seesaw (@groundseesaw) in Seoul through March 1. by @bradscanvas

I had the unique opportunity to head to Milwaukee and photograph the Olympic US speed skating team this year.

While we battled some technical challenges with lighting, we were able to secure some memorable pieces.

What is becoming more true the more I paint this journey - it’s the people and memories that will hold deeper value than the work itself. Perhaps that is the work and I’ve been mistaken this entire time. taken in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by @bradscanvas

Shot in 2023, my work here with the @aqualillies group was inspired by my long desire to recreate a busby Berkeley type series.

Many of these pieces have become a lexicon in my own thinking of how I compose.

Thanks for the entire team for making this dream come true! Enjoy :) by @bradscanvas

The Danseon fan 🪭 dates back centuries and provided a beautiful motif for my new series “Gyeol”. This one does remind me of fish scales.

Titled Taegeuki after the Korean flag 🇰🇷. The central Taegeuk is the balance of the universe through opposing forces (yin and yang)

Blue = passive cosmic forces
Red = active cosmic forces

Together they show that all things in nature change and grow through connection and balance. by @bradscanvas

In The Studio: Aerial photographer @bradscanvas returns to us with ‘Gyeol’, a new series created in Seoul, Korea with choreographer @liakimhappy and dancers from @1milliondance

Meaning “grain” in Korean, gyeol describes the direction a material naturally wants to move: the line in timber, the pull of water, the way fabric falls. Shot from directly overhead, the series brings the lines of the hanbok and the dancers’ individual movements together into one larger visual rhythm.

The work makes its public debut as the closing chapter of Brad’s first large-scale exhibition in Asia, Moving Life, Still Art, now on view at @groundseesaw
