Photographing Your Artwork with Brady Fullerton.

TRUCK Contemporary Art × CARFAC Alberta

October 2026 Recap.

Six hours. Cameras out. Let’s go. Missed the workshop? Don’t worry. We took notes.

Measure the Light 💡

Vibes are not a measuring system. 👀

Balance the sweet spot.

Aperture. Depth of field. Distance.

f/4 to f/8 got some love.

"Histogram" not Instagram! 🫣

Highlights. Shadows. Exposure. Your camera has receipts.

White Balance is testy! 🫩

Losing texture? Colour looking funny?

Your artwork knows what colour it is. Your camera may need help.

Natural light is free. Use it.

When it isn’t enough? Improvise.

Reflectors are cheaper than another light.

Yes, surprise! Your phone can do more than you think.

RAW isn’t just for the big camera anymore.

The artwork is fine. The lens is the drama.

Distortion. Perspective. Focal length.

The lens has opinions.

And then… traditional film entered the chat.

Somehow we arrived at Rodinal.

This workshop had range.

KEY. FILL. BACK.

Three lights. Three jobs. Two lights. Two jobs. One light. One job.

Everybody has a role.

Artists learning with artists.

Ask questions. Try things. Share what works.

What was your biggest takeaway?

That’s a wrap.

Thank you to everyone who spent the day learning, experimenting and sharing with us.

Were you there? Say hi in the comments.

More workshops. More resources. More to come.

CARFAC members: what should we learn together next?

Brady's vibing with some gorgeous cast bronze goat sculptures by Joe Fafard. These goats were in the shop to be documented by our own GOAT, Tieran Green. Trust me, this was not even close to the worst pun Tieran made that day.

Today Brady is vibing with three etchings, two by David Hockney and one by Lucien Freud. These intimate little sketches showcase some surprising similarities between Hockney and Freud. These two British painters were contemporaries and in 2002 they even painted portraits of each other.

We're pretty excited to be getting started with wet scanning here at Resolve. This is something we've talked about for a while and it's finally happening! If you're a film shooter you probably know what this means. Keep an eye out for updates on pricing and some examples of what our wet scans look like!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of shooting my niece Paige's engagement photos. Congratulations Paige! Here's some quick VHS video we made at the same time.

Missed Connections

Our modern digital, capitalist, industrial lives are so isolated, lonely, and disconnected. We're all just trying to connect. These digital expressions of longing get swallowed up by the void. They almost never result in real connection. But we're addicted to the lie that this technology and this modern world were built for us. So we keep desperately trying...

Missed Connections is an ongoing project exploring a constellation of themes surrounding the sometimes creepy, occasionally beautiful, and often sad longing expressed in missed connections ads. Missed connections ads are a longstanding staple of online classifieds. They express desire, lust, longing, and crude attempts to overcome alienation in our modern society. Using the information in the posted ad, including locations described, and GPS data left by the poster, I return to the most relevant locations and find images that evoke the emotions expressed by the ad, whatever they might be. I hope that this exploration, this archeology of space, serves to uncover some of the complexities of the emotions and psychologies expressed. Still, I know full well that my own feelings taint the project and I struggle to overcome my fluctuating feelings of optimism and pessimism. I embrace this lack of objectivity and hope the work can one day become a broad study of these desperate little digital notes tossed out into the void.
