This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all. But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life. All honor and glory to God forever and ever! He is the eternal King, the unseen one who never dies; he alone is God. Amen.

I love the scriptural “22” references being shared about “open doors” this year. Here’s an unpopular one: Genesis 22 – God tests Abraham’s faith & asks him to sacrifice Isaac.

“Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.”

Are we including that one in our vision boards this year?

Not the most quoted 2022 verse and I can see why. Loss, sacrifice, surrender. Who wants that? No way that’s an “open door,” right?

I can’t help but think of how proud God must’ve been of Abraham’s radical obedience in that moment. There was no one applauding, no one aware of how costly it was, no one prophesying that God would ultimately spare Isaac from death. Yet none of that mattered to Abraham because he knew the Lord and knew He had asked this of him.

God rewarded Abraham's faith, promising his descendants to be numerous as the stars, blessing all nations on the earth. I guess you could say Abraham was promoted to “Father of Many Nations” that day. What a doorway.

As 2022 is quickly coined the year of “open doors,” I ask – what does that looks like? What counts as "promotion" to me?

The measuring stick of success in the Kingdom of God is vastly different than on earth. Maybe even opposite. Perhaps the most celebrated acts in Heaven are the ones never acknowledged by man. Perhaps “overlooked” here means “invited in” there.

I do believe God is opening many doors this year, however, I wonder if many of the doors are opening inward – leading us to the Bridegroom. Consecration, discipleship, surrender… still fundamentals to a successful, fulfilling life with Jesus.

In 2022, maybe He’s opening a door for some to have new jobs, leadership roles, (insert big, beautiful dreams here), etc. For others, maybe He’s opening a door to intimacy with Him…laying down jobs, roles, and big, beautiful dreams to hideaway with Him. Both are incredible & worthy of pursuing Him into.

It matters who we let define success. Ask Jesus to define it for you. Being hidden, consecrated, and pruned this year could be your biggest promotion yet ❤️ taken in Redding, California by @bradyvoss
