For me, going first has sometimes looked like creating, leading, loving, praying, advocating, extending grace, or simply showing up before it was widely affirmed or celebrated.

I’m reminded in this season that faith can’t be measured by how everyone else responds. Part of growing is releasing the expectation that courage will always be recognized in the moment.

This past week, I’ve been sitting with the story of Nehemiah. He prayed, asked for what he needed, and led the work of rebuilding Jerusalem’s wall. Even when the work was mocked and opposed, he kept building.

Discomfort (or resistance) when you go first, doesn’t mean you’re ‘crazy’ or you’ve missed the mark. Sometimes it’s part of becoming stronger and more equipped for the assignment God has given you. by @braea

When we talk about being uncomfortable or stretched, we usually associate it with the tangible things, like crushing goals, leveling up in our careers, or pushing through one more rep in the gym.

However, this season of reflection has reminded me that the stretch is just as necessary on the inside.

So often, when a moment or a conversation makes us uncomfortable, our instinct is to protect ourselves, pull back, or set a boundary. And at times, that is wisdom. But there are other, more delicate moments when it’s simply our comfort talking.

In those moments, the invitation is to stay, to be vulnerable, and to allow ourselves to be stretched in ways that make us more loving, more gentle, more honest, and more whole.

A few months ago, I shared about the power of our yes and my commitment to saying yes to the assignment on my life. I’m realizing this is that same yes, just going deeper... and I’m thankful.

This is your sign to get out of your own way today, lean in, and go a little deeper. The best of you is still yet to come. by @braea
