LEGACY.

What makes this moment so special is that it’s not a new beginning; it’s the continuation of a story that started years ago.

As a sophomore at Westover High School, I picked up an instrument and joined the band. By my junior year, I was blessed with the opportunity to serve as Section Leader and Drum Major, and as a senior, I had the honor of leading as Head Drum Major. Those experiences shaped me into the leader, musician, and educator I am today.

After graduating from Westover, I continued my musical journey at Fayetteville State University, where I was fortunate to learn under the leadership and mentorship of Austin Chalmers. His guidance, wisdom, and belief in excellence helped prepare me for this moment.

Today, I am humbled and honored to return home as the Director of Bands at my alma mater, Westover High School.

I would like to sincerely thank Dr. Lowery for entrusting me with this opportunity. Congratulations on your new role as Chief of Schools. Your leadership and support have made a lasting impact, and I am grateful for your confidence in me.

I would also like to congratulate Mr. Judd on returning to his alma mater, Seventy-First High School. Thank you for continuing the legacy of the Mid-South Powerhouse and for guiding me along the way. Your mentorship and dedication to this program have helped pave the path forward.

To the students, alumni, parents, staff, and community: I am committed to honoring the legacy that was built before me while helping write the next chapter of excellence.

The legacy continues.

From practice fields to stadium lights… this journey was bigger than music. 🎓🎶

There were early mornings, long rehearsals, tough days, and unforgettable performances. Being part of the journey to ESPN Band of the Year showed me what dedication, sacrifice, discipline, and excellence truly look like.

“Music taught me that every great performance starts with discipline long before the applause ever comes.”

Every halftime show, every bus ride, every stand tune, every rehearsal under the sun, and every moment on that field helped shape me into the musician, leader, and man I am today. Forever grateful for the memories, the lessons, and the legacy.

Signing out as Head Drum Major 🏃🏾‍♂️💨
Graduation loading… May is right around the corner.

When I arrived at Fayetteville State University, I didn’t know what to expect or what I was getting into, especially walking into band camp; but I pressed through. Even with a pandemic shifting my time in school, my dedication to the MBX never changed. Watching the band grow from 30 members to nearly 130 is something I’ll always be proud of.

Thank you to Professor Chalmers for trusting and guiding me to be your Drum Major for three years. From Westover to Fayetteville State, we had a plan and executed it, making it to the ESPN Band of the Year National Championship. Thank you for allowing me to grow in so many areas, from media and arranging to drill design and show planning.

Shoutout to the MBX staff 🫶🏾, Gary Bryant for sharpening my drill design skills, and everyone who supported me along the way (family, friends, line brothers, frat brothers, and my MBX peers.)
