Yooooo my dream came true and we created a festival, to celebrate Science, Music, Art & Culture!!!

Every time these events get bigger, I second guess the concept.

Is it too leftfield? Will the scientists appreciate the music? Will the underground culture appreciate the science? Does putting them together on a nonhierarchical platform work? Will people come??

And every time, those concerns dissipate. We had multiple waves of attendees from different intersections of Leipzig; families, scientists, friends of scientists, artists and friends of artists, and so many people gave wonderful feedback. Often there is distance between prestigious, academic circles and grassroots local spaces, however underpinning both is a desire to explore, to create and further develop cultural interactions. And I really hope, that our festival could contribute to increased communication between these different parts of the city, and that we could learn from each other.

Heiter Bis Wolkig let us know that it was their best event of the summer - with over 500 people through the door. Max Planck institutes were won over, and we are already planning for something even bigger and better next year.

If anyone has any feedback, good or bad, we would love to hear it.

Scientists, musicians, artists, please let me know if you would like to get involved in future events & projects.

Thank you to Mark from Heiter Bis Wolkig, and the rest of their team, to the Max Planck Institute Press offices, to musicians, artists, scientists, all attendees and anyone else who was involved in some way for bringing this beautiful, intersectional day together. Let’s continue to come together and cocreate wonderful spaces & atmospheres.

Ps we barely got any pictures of the night coz we were DRUNK and having TOO MUCH FUN but it existed and was gr8 so sorry if u missed it lmao

Photos are from various ppl but the ones which look super beautiful and professional are from @ziskaaksiz by @braincox_

Would love to know in the comments if any of you with uteruses experience positive PMS symptoms? Mine are being sleepy/affectionate and wanting to write brutal and insane lyrics which my sane mind would never think of

Plz note I have tried to use inclusive language, where I have used 'women' denotes studies which exclusively researched self identifying cis women.

Controversial topic but maybe if more research funding was given to uteruses we'd know more 🙃🙃🙃

For the last few weeks, some of my research on the neuroscience of touch, has been projected across Leipzig in comic form!

Thanks to @lauramayer.space @patyczekagata who put together the brilliant idea of @sciencestreets; The initiative coordinated collaborations between artists and scientists then brought our interdisciplinary comics out to the streets and transport across Leipzig.

Sciencestreets challenged traditional science communication & broadened reach into wider intersections of the public, including those who may not believe that science 'belongs' to them. All the while ensuring the science was fun, accessible, and engaging. Superstars!! I’m so glad I got to be a tiny part of this huge endeavour and I love you both so much ♥️♥️♥️

Congratulations @mpicbs for continuing the festival in its biggest form to date, for a wonderful celebration for ScienceStreets, and for inviting me to talk - I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the festival <3

And of course thank you to the artist @lelou_s who transformed my vision into a beautiful comic form. Go check out her work!!! by @braincox_

Throwback to my first ever talk at my first ever event @hitness.club (March, 2022)

I was so worried that no one would come, but it was the first friday that covid lockdowns had lifted, and people were thirsty for social entertainment. We sold out and had to refuse people at the door!

This was back in the early days of a grassroots space in Leipzig, called Hitnessclub, and they had been running largely off donation basis. It was great that @mpicbs could provide proper funding - I remember Hitnessclub actually struggled to calculate an invoice as they weren't used to being able to name a price for their efforts, and amazing work!

I loved the idea that we could bring a big swanky illustrious institution to a tiny dingy DIY space. There was a beautiful disbelief in some of the scientist's faces when they initially arrived in the chaos of hitness club. What a magical memory!! @harinisfine thanks for your joyful sandwich consumption in the background

RIP LIZZY FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS

🙃 I am sure they are sharing some valuable insights as well. I just happened to have recently read up on two things they shared which I understand to be incorrec. So I don't know how accurately they are reading about everything they share?? As scientists we should be able to critique eachother and accept and build on that critique. This is exactly why we have things such as peer review, commentary papers etc etc

Yo this is a video in response to a guardian article about 'dark empaths' in which they interpret a study published 4 years ago, observe some tiktok videos, and talk to a psychologist. The article has been interpreted like shit and we really need to be careful about how we're using psychology research in our every day life 💕(No hate on the study itself, I think it's an interesting finding!)
