I think sometimes we forget how many times we’ve already survived the things we once thought would make us quit. I started this music journey back in 2012, and around 2014, I had a setback that made me question whether I was really built for this only for things to turn around in my favor later that same year. I have been moving, and in all honesty I’ve found myself further than I had imagined. I’ve had that conversation with myself many times since then. Should I keep going? Should I let this go? Somehow, I keep choosing music.

“I be sinnerman wey don pay dues.” For me, this is about time. It’s about the sacrifices, the setbacks, the people I’ve met and lost, the things I’ve learned and unlearned, and the years I’ve spent believing in something that wasn’t always easy to see. One of the most profound realizations I’ve had in recent times is the level at which you can’t do life alone.

As much as the world tries to push individualism and capitalism, i tell my friends from time to time, “You can’t do life alone.” Life is communal and your community is what sustains you.

Some people make the mistake of thinking you need people in the bad times, but I’ve realized you also need them in the good ones too. The same way you need people in difficult moments to remind you of why you should keep going and why you shouldn’t lose hope, you also need people in the good times to remind you that you didn’t get there alone.

The Onus to keep it pushing is yours, but I don’t think you can move forward alone. Someone has to believe in you, listen, show up, or even make the journey lighter.

I believe that’s the paradox of being “Solo.” You can walk your own path, make your own life decisions and carry your responsibility, but fact remains you were never meant to do life by yourself. taken in Tarkwa Bay, Lagos, Nigeria by @braineeofficial

Isn’t it crazy how your account balance can affect the state of your mind? You can feel fine today, then one unexpected expense comes and suddenly you’re questioning your life, your progress, and everything you’ve been doing. Sometimes it’s not that your life is bad. It’s just that you’re broke.

And in a society where almost everything costs money, it’s easy to start measuring your worth by what you can afford. I’m learning to want more without letting what I don’t have make me feel like I’m not enough. Money matters, but it shouldn’t have the final say on your peace.

If things aren’t looking how you hoped this month, just breathe. You’ll figure it out.

There are so many moments in my life where I look back and think, “Wow… God really brought me through.” Things I prayed for, things I cried about, things I thought would never happen — somehow, I’m here. And even though I’m still chasing so much, I’ve learned to pause and appreciate the person I’m becoming and the journey that brought me here.

That’s a big part of what MMA MMA means to me. It’s me taking a moment to say thank you. For the doors that opened, the ones that didn’t, my friends I’ve lost, the people who stayed, the lessons that changed me, and even the seasons I didn’t understand. There were days I didn’t feel like I was making progress, but looking back now, I can see how much grace has carried me.

So while I’m here vibing to this second verse, I’m not just enjoying my song…I’m reflecting on my journey. I’m grateful for where I am, grateful for where I’ve been, and genuinely excited for where I’m going. I might not have everything I’m praying for yet, but I have enough reasons to say MMA MMA 💚 by @braineeofficial

One of the reasons I choose Grattitude on the good days and the bad ones is because it’s the only way to stay sane out here.

I realized recently that half of surviving Lagos is learning what to react to and why to let slide. Complaining doesn’t pay bill and panic doesn’t move you forward.

I recorded this song in 2024 with @echotheguru one night when I felt really down in spirit and I needed a reason to remain grateful. While writing this song in that session, I remembered how my mum always asked for a song she could praise God with and that’s how this song was made.
