I have been trying to find the words to describe Thursday 🥹 How it felt to hold finished copies of my book (those sprayed edges!!) for the first time, after two decades of writing and dreaming and hoping.

I’ve decided there aren’t any words - but there ARE photos of me grinning like a loon, and then trying not to cry! The BEST day 🥰

(Don’t ask me how long it took to sign them 😱)

As historical fiction continues its epic rise in the 2026 book charts, I am so incredibly lucky to be joining the wonderful Joanna Miller, Essie Fox, Elle Machray and Sasha Butler for a fun-filled evening of bookish chat at Waterstones Birmingham on Thursday 26th November.

There will be laughter, there will be mystery, there will be murder (on the page 👀), and we would love for you to join us! Tickets are on sale now - link in bio!

Anyone who has read Thornby Manor will know that a certain headless horseman (or is he??) prowls the streets of Victorian Warwick 🪓 Little did I know that he would still be stalking the townspeople today…

Thank you @warwickcastleofficial for deciding to bring my story to life every Monday morning during rush hour 😂 it is most kind of you. Do I have some sort of special power? What else can I write into existence?! Taking requests!

September 2026 📸

Committing the photo that terrified everyone to the grid 😂 Too early to say that I can’t wait to go back to the Alps already?! The scenery doesn’t look real 🥰

September is my favourite month of the year; the gateway to autumn, my favourite season of the year! But has anyone actually seen autumn yet? 👀 Where is my misty, gloomy, moody weather?? The sunshine is lovely and all, but… give me my gloom!!

No pressure October, but you’d better deliver… 👻🎃

Last year, I saw an advert for The Brontë Women’s Writing Festival online and decided it was finally time to make a pilgrimage to the Brontë Parsonage Museum, something I had wanted to do since I was a teenager.

There began an instant love affair with Haworth 🥰 one of the most magical places I have ever visited. I came away from the festival feeling uplifted and inspired, and excited to come back. I never dreamed (in my wildest of dreams) that I would return the following year as an author, speaking about my own debut novel 🥲

Thank you SO much to the amazing team @bronteparsonagemuseum for making my dreams come true, and for creating such a special event year after year, celebrating women’s writing at the home of my biggest literary heroes ❤️

Thank you to every single person who came, it was an absolute honour - I could have chatted forever! Alas, I barely took a single photo (too busy doing said chatting) and have shamelessly stolen most of these from the fabulous @abookwormliveshere and @annacaig 📸 I’m so grateful to you both for taking these - proof it actually happened!

@essie_fox_author @alwasityhh I can’t believe I was lucky enough to share a stage with you ❤️ I so hope that we get to do it again, I am in awe of you both.

Naturally, I am already planning another trip - the good people of Haworth, be warned… 😅

Last weekend’s hike reminded me so much of The Last of the Mohicans, one of my favourite films 🏔️ I think I must have watched it once a year for the last fifteen years at least!

Does anyone else do this with films? I have also watched The Lord of the Rings trilogy so many times that I know most of the words by heart. The extended editions, naturally - I’m not an amateur 😂

Fantastic article in @_thebookseller highlighting the resurgence and strength of the historical fiction market.

As is the way of things, genres go through peaks and troughs, but I have always felt that historical fiction (my favourite genre) has perhaps been unfairly consigned to the margins in recent years.

As this article points out, the genre can be tricky to define (Gothic historical fiction! Mythological historical fiction! Historical crime!), which in some ways belies its many successes. After all, the previous four winners of the Waterstones Debut Fiction Prize fall into this category in different ways!

Huge congratulations to my wonderful friend @joannamillerauthor who is spotlighted here for her phenomenal debut, The Eights 💖 I cannot recommend it highly enough!
