My heart is so full watching my best friend prepare to welcome her baby boy! When we were kids, we talked about our futures as if they were so far away. And here you are, getting ready for the biggest chapter yet. I know without a doubt that you will be the best momma. He’s already so blessed to have you, because you pour your whole heart into those you love. One month left!!! Between taking five classes and working full-time, I haven’t had a second to breathe, let alone take it all in. My last semester of undergrad and first semester of grad school have seriously flown by.

There was a point when going back to school wasn’t even on my radar. I was happy with where I was, until one day it just felt like the right time. After my first meeting with my incredible advisor (shoutout to Matt!), it stopped feeling like an obligation and started feeling like a purpose. I finally felt like I was in a program that aligned with my strengths and focused on the areas I’m most passionate about. This program is so special and has given me the opportunity to learn from an amazing group of faculty. HRLR has taught me the people side of business, focusing on an organization’s most important asset: its people, and their human, employee, and labor rights.

During a time in our country when diversity, equity, and inclusion have become “dirty words”, I’m grateful to be graduating from a program that truly values those principles.

I still have one more year of school until I’m officially done with my Master’s, but I have to take a second to appreciate this moment before it’s gone. This first degree will always hold a special place in my heart. I still see the 17 year old version of myself who started this journey. She had no idea what life had in store for her, but she finally saw it through!

My journey to get here has been anything but ordinary, and I’m deeply grateful for everyone who encouraged me along the way. My family and friends who have kept my head up high, everyone at MSU, the friends I’ve met in HRLR, the faculty who have guided me, and my amazing supervisor and colleagues who have been so patient with my crazy schedule, always cheering me on to keep going.

As I get ready to close this chapter, I can’t wait to see what’s ahead of me.
