Taimani — one of the funniest, strongest, most genuine, and giving souls I know. Watching you face cancer with so much courage has been nothing short of inspiring, and I’m beyond proud of you and everything you’ve overcome.Thank you for being such an incredible friend. Today marks a year from probably the scariest day of my life. My mom gets ready for work early in the morning and woke me up to show that our bathroom fan was black and burnt. She told me she was going to call maintenance to get it checked. She went to work and I went back to sleep. I just remember waking up at 8am on the dot (which is crazy cause I never wake up early) to the smell of smoke. Half asleep I thought to myself “ugh it smells so bad where tf is this maintenance dude”. To be safe I went to go check on the fan. I opened the bathroom door (we kept it closed) and a wall of smoke hit me with the sight of fire breaking out on the ceiling. In a panic I ran to wake my bf up to tell him there’s a fire. I didn’t know what to do. Do I try to put it out? Or do I call 911? I ended up calling 911 and my bf and I grabbed my dog and grandma and took them outside. In a matter of minutes a single cop showed up with a fire extinguisher to try and put it out, but he ended up calling for backup because the fire had spread rapidly. Five minutes later, three fire trucks came and bombarded the house. The fire had spread throughout the whole attic. Once the fire was put out, a firefighter came to talk to my mom and I to tell us it was a good thing I had called the time I did. If I had called any later, the fire would’ve hit our gas line and we all would’ve died.That hit me hard.This experience taught me to appreciate life everyday… life is way too short and anything can happen. Sorry I’m not good at writing, but hopefully I painted the picture for yall.
