“When stepping onto the set of a long-running procedural series, one can assume the atmosphere would be somewhat stoic, with everyone simply going through the motions. In reality, the cast and crew created a very warm, cohesive, creative working environment.

Found Footage.
Romania 1800’s on Saint Demetrius — late October

Brutaru - A Surname derived from brutar which is “BAKER” in Romanian.

Dr. Robert Burnescu — A Romanian-friendly formal variation of “Bob Burns”though Burns remains Scottish or English in origin with a surname constructed to evoke the original.

1950 - Year Rick Baker was born.

On 14 October 1800’s, French inventor Louis Le Prince pointed his camera at four family members.

The film lasts just 2.11 seconds, yet it is recognized as the oldest surviving motion picture ever recorded.

Throwback from behind the scenes of our sold-out production of The Sound of Music.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to share the stage with many gifted artists. But this experience felt different.

To play even the smallest part alongside these remarkable students—each with unique gifts, abilities, and courage—was humbling.

As an actor, you’re taught to be present. They reminded me what that truly means. They listened, absorbed, trusted, and performed with a level of honesty that can’t be taught.

The audience felt it. Every laugh, every tear, every standing ovation was real.

What @backlightproductions has built is far more than a theater program. It is a foundation where individuals are not defined by their special needs, but by their talents. A place where those too often overlooked are given the opportunity to be seen in a different light.

I remember the day before opening night quietly wondering, “This may not go well.” @melshire who built this program from the ground up, simply smiled and said, “They’ll show up on show day.”

I just politely grinned.

Show day arrived… and magic happened.

Somewhere along the way, you stop thinking about your own performance. You realize you’re there for them. And in return, they give you something far greater than applause.

The laughter backstage. The encouragement. The tears. The joy. Those moments resinated with me long after the curtain closed.

Every staff member and volunteer @backlightproductions Your compassion, patience, and unwavering belief in these performers are extraordinary.

Organizations like this survive because of generosity. Every donation creates opportunities that extend far beyond the stage. They build confidence, independence, friendships, and life skills that last long after the final bow.

Some productions entertain.

Others change people. They do both!

23 years ago. The producers told me later on ,that they had originally wanted a “Spicoli” type and that in their words “I was maybe too attractive”for what they were looking for. I had made a bold choice to play him high strung, very physical, socially awkward and a bit of an idiot savant. Due to the tonality of the show , I avoided the typical stoner element you normally see in these type of characters. I tried to incorporate physical characteristics to channel his social awkwardness inspired by @busterkeatonsoc @charliechaplinofficial @official_dick_van_dyke #johnritter michael.richards @chevychase @mrchristopherlloyd Took a chance and gave them something they didn’t know they wanted. #malibuca #troubletv #busterkeaton #charliechaplin #dickvandyke #brucecampbell #michaelrichards #chevychase #peterengel #physicalcomedy #nbc #christopherlloyd #tribune #busterkeatonoc by @brandonbrianbrooks

This was a “IMPROV” with the students in the style of Chaplin/Keaton, telling the story of a street performer showing kindness to someone in need and then in return, paying it forward. Very proud of them!

Make-up test by @nefxdan (Scroll Pics)
Dan originally was going to apply an old man makeup but the piece was more fitted for a larger individual.

So he adapted with another piece and we explored the character development as it progressed and manifested itself during the process.

This was a makeup challenge for himself and relied on a lot impromptu adjustments that one can face on a set.

I had received a few comments if it was a Penguin inspired make-up.

I said no. It’s the Penguin second cousins friends former roommate “The Pigeon”
Dan always a pleasure to sit in for…
