From an early age, I was taught to ask God for the anointing of the Holy Spirit on my life. As a teenager, I prayed it often. And I do mean OFTEN. I’d sing it, say it, and pray it! But I’m not sure I really understood what I was asking for. After walking with Jesus for a few decades and spending 19 years in full-time ministry, I’ve learned that the anointing must be stewarded. Jesus said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me TO…” (Luke 4:18) “TO…” He was anointed to proclaim good news. To bring liberty. To bring sight. To serve people. The anointing is not primarily about what happens TO you. It is about what God desires to do THROUGH you for others. That means the anointing was never intended to validate our importance, grow our platform, build our personal brand, or make people impressed with how “powerfully” God uses us. Oil is for SERVICE. Therefore, oil requires stewardship. Prayer matters. Character matters. Holiness matters. Obedience matters. Boundaries matter. What happens when nobody is watching matters. I’ve also learned that anointing attracts opposition. Greater calling can bring greater conflict. So I’ve had to learn not to take every single attack so personally. But perhaps the most sobering lesson for me has been this: The anointing can become your numbing drug of choice. Ministry can become medication. The platform can become anesthesia. The manifestation can become a substitute for intimacy. It is possible to love the feeling of God using you more than you love simply being WITH Him. So after all these years, I still pray: “God, anoint my life. I need a fresh anointing.” But now that prayer carries a little more weight. Anoint me to serve. Anoint me to love people. Anoint me to obey. Give me the character to carry what You have placed on my life. And above everything else: Never let me fall in love with what flows THROUGH me more than He who lives in me. #theAnointing #HolySpirit #faith by @brandoncormier

Made some new church family while ministering “Down Under” last week! 🇦🇺 I left Australia inspired and encouraged…not just by WHAT God is doing through Pastors @richardkobakian and @helenkobakian, but by HOW they are leading and stewarding it at @lifehouse.church. There’s something special about leaders who are as intentional about how they build as they are about what they build. My heart was stirred and my vision was expanded. What a power-packed four days at @lifehouse.conference in Melbourne. And it was an absolute honor to share the platform once again with the one-of-one @shanewillardministries! Grateful for the friendships, the fresh impartation, and all that God is doing across the nations.
