Happy Juneteenth, y'all!! Remember: Black joy is not fake, escapist, or irresponsible. It is NECESSITY. To feel joy, to light up, to create beautiful things in times of darkness is as defiant as anything else. So keep on smiling, keep on creating, and keep on bringing yourself to life as the fight for liberation continues.

Feels somewhat counterintuitive, given the abysmal state of this app, but allow me to reintroduce myself.

I’m Brandon Hankins, or BrandonLionhearted on socials, and I’m a webcartoonist who creates the heartfelt action/adventure fantasy called Autumn Wing and the Crown of Fire.

I’m from Detroit, but have made a home of Lansing/East Lansing for the last 15 years as I’ve completed my Arts and Humanities degree and honed my craft as a cartoonist, focusing on analog mediums and traditional techniques with brush and ink, ink wash, and watercolor.

My mission, as an artist, a Black man, a human being, is to create beautiful works that restore a sense of aliveness in depth in whoever sees or reads them, and to do so by following my own sense of joy, freedom, and individuality.

No matter what, I’m gonna keep making work from my own heart, FOR my own heart, and trust that I’m not alone in what my work expresses.

You can read my work where ppl place links (I hate that I have to use such vague language, but such is the nature of this crusty ahh app -_-)

I love telling stories about journeys, and that yearning for something *just* out of reach and over the horizon. A mountain, the stars, some beautiful view that calls out to people. Because, most of the time, what ends up happening is the hero forgets to search for it where it matters most: within themselves. Even so, it is THROUGH that external search over the horizon that their inner light is found, so it it's never a wasted trip.

It's easy to forget as we search for what feels out of reach, to turn inwards. But it isn't a wasted journey. You still get to see parts of the world, and of other people, you wouldn't have gotten to see otherwise. That's beautiful. But, at the end, don't discount yourself by thinking your heart and soul don't shine like the stars on that horizon. Light's curse is that it can never see itself, but only what it illuminates. That is never a good enough reason to dim yours.

Part 2 of my latest Okami fan piece! Adding watercolor. I've had a lot of fun over the last few years experimenting more and more with watercolors. I find that it helps breathe even more life to my already bold lines, and helps clarify them. @capcomusa @officialcapcom #traditionalart #watercolor #okami #blackartist #capcom by @brandonlionhearted

Fan art of one of the most impactful games I've ever played. Okami helped inspire my love (see also: obsession) of brush and ink in the first place, so naturally I loved using my brush to bring life to the Mother to Us All. @capcomusa @officialcapcom I'm SOOOO HYPE for Okami 2.

Feeling out of sorts, so I went on a nature walk yesterday at @fennernature which is always a wonderful place to do some sketching. Shout outs to the Hobbit-themed wedding we chanced upon there as well XD congrats!
