Running has taught me so much in one year. Running is deeply personalRunning is intention settingRunning is inclusiveRunning is teaching me to keep moving forward even when things get hard. That’s why I love it even when it hurts. we suffer, we succeed, we run togetherTaking myself out of my comfort zone has brought me into a new era of firsts, moving out on my own, collecting sporty hobbies, cold plunging weekly, meeting friends who come to Vancouver from all parts of the world, constantly turning limits into new possibilities. This last year has changed my perspective on Vancouver—where I grew up— and its driven, kind, friendly, creative people, My life with new meaning that I am constantly grateful for.Photo credit: @calverphotography … who’s work is continuing to blow me away 😄 by @brandonlovik

Last year this time I felt completely lost and alone. Depression was eating at my soul and I felt like I didn’t belong anywhere. I was so close to giving up.Everything changed when I found running,Movement became medicine.Running became community. It’s all given me purpose to keep moving forward,to support each other in pursuit of a better self. This journey training for the @bmovanmarathon has been a gift. From the cold dark run club nights, to the shared meals after,The continued support and wisdom from so many of you along the way, the determination and friendliness from the running community in this city. I am in awe,I wouldn’t be where I am without running,Being able to connect and inspire whether it was on a run, at a coffee shop, social media, cactus club, the skytrain. I’ve found running to be a connecting thread that brings people together from all walks of life, whether our goals are the same or not. We show up.Shoutout to @mondaysrunclub for being the lighthouse that has guided me to this moment. I’ll be fondly thinking about this year for the rest of my life A MAJOR thank you, family, friends, and everyone who came out to cheer me and all the runners in the marathon Sunday. I couldn’t have done it without you. That was the toughest thing I have ever done, the last 10km was a mental battle the whole way, keep pushing, and I crossed that finish line with pride, a lot of tears, full of joy.Watch time: 3:58:42Chip time: 4:02:27 Just the idea that I might have gotten that sub 4 marathon, for my first time out, regardless I am immensely grateful to be able to push my body to limits I’ve never seen before,And the journey doesn’t end here. Stay tuned… by @brandonlovik

I’m not sure what the stars were scheming with this mercury microwave, but I have NOT been feeling like myself, low energy, enthusiasm missing, pulling myself from bed, a darkness looming overheadYesterday felt like a spell lifted and my energy aligned—remembering I’ve been through these dark moments before and I’ll get through them again.Reconnecting with myself, learning every day these emotions will pass like a storm, to keep getting up when it feels like my thoughts are pushing me down by @brandonlovik

Race weekend in Whistler was an absolute riot. Staying under one roof with 12+ friends from @mondaysrunclub was such an amazing time, from shared meals, to the finish line, and the living room dance floor. I’m grateful for this weekend making it out of the group chat, and the fleeting moments that were getting to know each other a little deeper. This was the first time I’ve run a sanctioned half marathon 🏅after running my marathon in May I took a few weeks off, utilizing slow movement to gearing up ten days out with a few social, and a 12km long run. Nervous excitement right to the start line but ready to put my all into my first trail race I came in with a chip time of 1:56, minutes short of my 21km road personal record. by @brandonlovik

When friends invite you to camp in the mountains, you go. This was a new experience for me, spending time at @mec to get kitted out, and disappeared for two days with amazing friends I’m grateful to share in these exciting adventures,Braving 1400m of elevation to a stunning snow covered Brunswick Lake.We were prepared for almost everything on this maiden voyage, but we learned lots along the way.. hiking poles next time, bare feet freezing through the river, to one of us getting to sleep in the cozy little A frame… “add that to the list!!” But it all worked out in the end, leaving exhausted but full of life.Connecting with the quiet noise of Vancouvers backyard was short-lived but so needed. With more starry nights l’m calling this the start of camp season. by @brandonlovik

I ran my first marathon. The training, extra water stations (thanks @bmovanmarathon), the words “keep moving forward”, and the loudest cheering I’ve ever heard in my life 🫶🏻 got me through the pain to that finish line, teary eyed and grateful.Movement gave me peaceTraining gave me a goalCommunity supported the journey,Running is often about chasing solo goals, but it is hardly a solo sport. Keeping each other accountable, running day in, day out, or cheering from the sidelines, it wouldn’t have been worth it without you—we did this together. by @brandonlovik

Spent the evening in the company of Vancouver’s run clubs brought together by the @lululemon YET session, an evening in conversation about goals we haven’t achieved “yet”. The common thread running, and a lot of Lycra, pushing through pain and a call to dive deeper, or dream with intention. Feeling immensely grateful to find myself involved such an inspiring community of people, the runners of Vancouver.Running has become a connecting thread through all aspects of my life and to continue the pursuit, but I also leave pondering what else I haven’t done yet, what life experiences I want to add, and how far I’ll go next. by @brandonlovik
