High Sierra Trail -
finally checked this long-time dream off the list in the fall and it surpassed the hype- giant sequoias, natural hot springs, granite scrambling, high alpine peaks- all in 75 miles of glorious eastern sierra scenery

Andrea shared this Mary Oliver poem that they loved with me one day while we were filming and today it found its way back in front of me and I can’t stop thinking about it

COME SEE ME IN THE GOOD LIGHT

I don’t have the words to comprehend that this film is now available for the world to see. To shoot it was the most intimate unique experience and one that profoundly changed me and our whole tiny crew and I breathe easy today knowing many more strangers are getting to experience the unforgettable love and genius of @andreagibson and @meganfalley

Thank you @white815 @jessicalhargrave @stef.willen @therealfluffnotaro for your commitment to making this. Before indie docs have money or distribution they need champions who believe they’re worth making and you all never wavered

There are certain stories you hear that you can’t believe you’ve never heard and that you never forget once you’ve heard them. This was the case when we first learned about Kwame Nkrumah from Ghanaian journalist @justbaidoo. To then learn a cinematographer named Chris Hesse had filmed this story, on gorgeous @kodak 16&35mm film, but had never been able to show these films to the world, was enough to start us rolling our camera.

We couldn’t be more thrilled and filled with gratitude toward @tiff_net for giving our film @theeyesofghana a platform for the world to learn this story, see Chris’ films, and fall in love with the man just like we did. Putting aside the absolute mastery this man had over his craft, and how stunning his films remain 60 years later, his stewardship of history - history as cinema, as witnessing real images in order to inspire, to spread ideas, to solidify identity and culture - has only further flamed my love for this beautiful medium.

What started as a small passion project has evolved into one of the most fulfilling, creative adventures of my career - to get to shoot a film about one of the most important unsung cinematographers of our time is a privilege I don’t take for granted, and I pinch myself at the caliber of creative forces that have jumped head first into this project, from the incredibly talented filmmaking crew in Accra, most especially @anitaafonu @justbaidoo and @yawamponsah.africa, to the best digital and IMAX camera teams on the planet (@davidfeeneymosier @thatonedudeq @its_a_drae_day @joe_ashi @innervoiced_) to the edit and music genius of @monisalazaro & @krisbowersmusic to the most thoughtful and passionate creative leads in @bgproudfoot @nanaadwoafrimpong & @bwayomoses

My old film camera broke on me over a year ago and it took me too long to replace it. Missed the joy of simply photographing the pretty moments that pass us by on our way
