My second Multiple Sclerosis Walk Chicago 2026!
I was Dx 8/2024 after living w/ RIS (a precursor) for some years previously.

I am grateful to be able to use my body and my mind, and be present in the moment.

I’m a mama, a birth worker, a photographer and a MS Warrior.

Remember, health is wealth, we only have one mind, treat it well. 🧠

I am thankful and grateful for the encouragement and support.

So wonderful to be apart of this exhibition, and to pay tribute to motherhood is a blessing! 📷
& Happy Sweet Sixteen to my Goddaughter! She is also in the exhibition, and I was there as a “doula” and photographing her birth! That image is also in the exhibition! Shout out to her Mama, the Founder of Wild Yams, Wisdom Baty! You make me soo proud, and you’ve always inspired me and encouraged me to never give up! Much love to you, and to all the artists in the exhibition! This sisterhood of artists is incredible!

:WILD YAMS, in collaboration with OH Art Foundation, presents The Space Between:
A WILD YAMS Retrospective, a seven-year reflection on the evolution of our Black mother, artist-run residency and collective. The exhibition foregrounds the WILD YAMS residency as a radical space of collaboration and partnerships that ensure the survival and vitality of artist's growth, while centering Black women's creative labor and caregiving -literally and figuratively. This retrospective brings together paintings, photographs, sculptures, textiles, installations, and time-based works by the WILD YAMS community of artists, alumni and current members.:

My name is Brandy Alpha and I am a Globetrotter who has been to 5 of 7 continents. I am a photographer, community based Birth Worker (Doula), & mama to a vivacious four year old. I am also a Multiple Sclerosis warrior. My work spans from documentary, personal projects , with hints of travel, fashion & street photography.
After graduating Columbia College, I struggled to land a career as a full time photographer, I began my career with the govt for over 12 years. When I became pregnant, I knew I wanted to revisit my passions as a photographer and birth worker.
Since transitioning to motherhood, my photography work has began to focus more on documenting family life, babies, and understanding and showcasing the beauty in everyday living.

Two years ago I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a devastating autoimmune disease of the brain and spinal cord where the immune system attacks the protective cover of your nerves, which blocks signals between your brain and your body. It affected my sight but I see my future clearly, and I have support.

My life, my love, my journey. I’m soo grateful to have my vision. Asé ✨

Painter @grands_art created a beautiful work of art and gave me a voice to speak about my illness & journey in her latest exhibition.
I was DX w/ Multiple Sclerosis 8/2024
& my life has been a hell of a ride the past few years.
What is MS? A devastating autoimmune disease of the brain and spinal cord where the immune system attacks the protective cover of your nerves, which blocks signals between your brain and your body.
My first “attack” affected my vision, & as a Photographer let me tell you omg!
But here I am almost two years later, thriving as a mama, a doula (birthworker) & photographer. I am grateful for the love & support I have received, & baby, here I stand!

WILD YAMS is pleased to present Between Memory and Becoming: Manifestations of Black Motherhood A cumulative exhibition that brings together the work of WILD YAMS SEED Residency cohort artists Alexy Irving-Alleyne, Andrea Hill Fitzgerald, Grandeast Wright, Summer Coleman, and Teni Odunsi. Through mixed media, sculptures, photography, paintings, and texts, the cohort of artists trace connections between the natural world, diasporic traditions, and practices of survival. Between Memory and Becoming: Manifestations of Black Motherhood pokes holes in spaces of silence and absence while reflecting on mothering through lived experiences and historical memory. Together, the works narrate the varying ways of always becoming and carrying forward forms of care that are often unseen, undervalued, or erased. The exhibiting artists reflect Black motherhood back in all its forms as a praxis and as unfixed.

My personal story about my struggles w/ my Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis, being a mom, a creative & a birthworker is featured in this exhibition. I’m soo grateful to be showcased in this beautiful light! 🎨 by Grandeast W.

I came across this beautiful family while at the @chi.shooters photo walk 7/26. Did a super impromptu maternity shoot while they were getting ready to enjoy an afternoon bike ride in Humboldt Park. Leicapalooza 2026 @tamarkin_camera Photo walk w/ @gastonshutters was incredible! It was awesome shooting along beside him and fellow photographers, getting tips and seeing different perspectives. Shooting both color & b&w. This is my second time shooting w/ a Leica, I was able to test out the latest body, the Leica SL3-P! Such a cool opportunity, I really enjoyed the experience!
