When @alyssa.dabbs and I raised over $100,000 last year during Pi Phi’s philanthropy weeks, we never imagined the impact we would make not only on local Tucson literacy programs, but on communities across the world. So, when @buildon offered us the life changing opportunity to travel to Malawi, Africa to help build the primary school we fully funded through Pi Phi, we didn’t hesitate for a single second.
What I didn’t expect was just how transformative this journey would be. For an entire week, we were fully immersed in the culture, living with a host family, sharing stories, and working hand in hand with every member of the community. The resilience, kindness, and dedication of everyone we met left a lasting impression on me. It was an experience that taught me so much about compassion, leadership, and my own capabilities. Most importantly, it reaffirmed my passion for working with children and my desire to make a meaningful difference in their lives after medical school.
Thanks to BuildOn, over 700 children now have access to a brighter future through education, a future filled with hope and possibility. I am incredibly grateful to have been part of such a powerful experience, surrounded by the most inspiring people I could have ever imagined. This journey changed my perspective, my purpose, and my heart forever. Chiponde will forever have a place in my heart 💌💌 taken in Malawi, Africa by @brandykishbaugh
