Braids are not just a hairstyle. They’re culture, roots. Afro-Caribbean identity carried in every hand that works.

Heibi chose this craft because she wanted something that truly represented her and braids say everything without words.

But Heibi lives between two worlds: Santo Domingo, where she braids, and Samaná, where she was born and where she’s returning. There, she’s been building Tropical Expedition alongside her family, a project to show Samaná from the inside, from the village soul that still survives the tourism.

Heibi y Tropical Box Braids existiendo en un mismo universo: un lugar donde puedo dar lo que soy y hacer lo que genuinamente amo.

Peinar y tejer se han convertido en mi timón, una forma de navegar hacia un espacio donde la belleza afrocaribeña pueda ser entendida en toda su complejidad.

Porque una trenza nunca es solamente una trenza.

Hay patrones, memoria, identidad, cultura, creatividad y una historia que atraviesa generaciones. Hay una manera de habitar el Caribe, de expresarnos y de reconocernos en lo que llevamos sobre la cabeza.

Para mí, crear estilos protectores es una forma de contar esa historia desde el presente: reinterpretarla, llevarla a nuevos lugares y crear para una diáspora que también merece verse representada.
